Miklagard est le second volet d’une trilogie relatant l’histoire des Vikings. Si le thème n’est pas très original… la musique non plus ! Au moins, c’est cohérent. REBELLION pratique un Heavy Metal ultra basique qui trahit une parenté avec GRAVE DIGGER, eux aussi peu connu pour leur originalité à tout rompre. Alors, autant le dire tout de suite, cette absence complète de créativité artistique en repoussera plus d’un. Si, en revanche, vous êtes amateurs de cavalcades et autres riffs qui ne se prennent pas la tête, bref si vous êtes un poil bourrin, alors cet album n’est pas dénué d’intérêt. D’abord, il met largement en avant son côté épique et il faut admettre que l’on se prend au jeu. Dès l’intro, on se croit plongé dans le 13ème Guerrier !
Au chant Michael Seifert fait un excellent travail, non que l’on soit vraiment époustouflé par sa technique ou sa puissance (quoique…), mais il parvient à changer de tonalité afin de coller aux différentes ambiances de l’album.
La production est plutôt satisfaisante même si l’on peut reprocher un certain manque de relief. Ce serait parfait pour un album « normal », mais ici les velléités de concept-album et l’accent mis sur l’aspect épique imposaient davantage d’ampleur.
Miklagard s’adresse presque exclusivement aux amateurs de Heavy Metal viril et épique, les autres risquent de ne même pas comprendre que l’on puisse se satisfaire d’une telle accumulation de clichés.
