Depuis son éviction de JADED HEART (dont il était le fondateur-leadeur-compositeur-chanteur-producteur), le groupe n’est plus qu’une enveloppe vide et la fadeur de l’album Helluva Time nous prouvait que Bormann était bien la clé de voûte de cette formation allemande. Il prend ici une belle revanche avec cet opus solo malicieusement intitulé Conspiracy, allusion aux déboires qui l’ont opposé à ses ex-comparses.
Non seulement la comparaison entre Helluva Time et cette nouvelle galette tourne largement à l’avantage de cette dernière, mais on a franchement le sentiment que le grand JADED HEART est de retour. Bormann enchaîne les tubes avec un naturel incroyable ; il confirme son aisance à manier les mélodies agréables et les refrains accrocheurs, tout en saupoudrant l’ensemble de quelques riffs bien sentis. Du Hard Rock mélodique au Rock, en passant par la ballade en duo avec Anette Blyckert, Bormann fait le tour de l’AOR sans commettre la moindre faute de goût. On ressort de cette écoute avec des mélodies plein la tête.
Pourtant cet album a deux défauts : en premier lieu, il lui manque un peu de personnalité, on ressent trop qu’il s’agit d’une œuvre solo qui n’a pas été complétée par d’autres intervenants significatifs. Mais surtout, il s’essouffle vers la fin. Bormann a voulu nous combler avec 13 titres et plus d’une heure d’écoute mais il ne parvient pas à conserver la même intensité tout au long de l’écoute, d’autant que la seconde partie de l’album est plombée par 4 ballades.
Il n’en reste pas moins que Conspiracy est un album indispensable pour les fans de JADED HEART et fortement recommandé aux amateurs de Hard Rock mélodique.
