Attention ! Voici un groupe qui fera fuir les plus téméraires. KUNAMAKA, formation qui nous vient de Clermont Ferrand évolue dans un style assez décalé dirons-nous. Les adeptes de MR BUNGLE, CARNIVAL IN COAL ou encore FANTOMAS seront comblés. Ces mecs là ont l’air d’avoir une vision assez primaire de la musique accompagné d’une schizophrénie stylistique assez prononcée… Et je dois dire que ça a son charme. Nous avons donc droit à une bouillie d’influences incroyablement diverses qui vont du Funk au Black Metal, en passant par le Jazz et le Hardcore, le tout ponctué d’ambiances parfois malsaines, parfois mielleuses. En cadeau nous avons même droit à un arrangement de « Jack’s Lament » tiré de la BO de « L’étrange Noël de Mr Jack » et une magnifique reprise de « Hunting High & Low » des vieux A-HA (bien meilleure que l’originale d’ailleurs). Je ne vous cache pas qu’une certaine ouverture d’esprit et un sens de l’humour assez costaud sont nécessaires à l’écoute de cette galette.
En tout cas, c’est un plaisir de voir ces musiciens partir dans des trips complètement hallucinants, sans aucune barrière de style. C’est trop rare de nos jours. J’avoue qu’ici ce n’est pas fait dans la plus grande délicatesse, mais chaque style est plutôt bien maîtrisé, et on se surprend rapidement à attendre la subtilité sur chaque nouveau titre. Le chanteur impressionnant de polyvalence se fait guide de cet univers complètement barré (je n’oserais quand même pas la comparaison avec le grand Mike Patton), et nous maintient accrochés, tels des enfants dans un train fantômes à la fête foraine du coin. La visite est grotesquement agréable. Les KUNAMAKA nous prennent toujours par là où on ne les attend pas. C’est amusant, divertissant, et assez bien fait, de quoi passer un bon moment.
Evidemment, ce n’est pas le genre de CD qui tourne en boucle sur la platine. Ca manque de finesse et de cohérence. Mais avec le temps… Ne sait-on jamais. Et s’ils sont aussi déjantés en concert que dans leur musique, je pense que leurs prestations valent leur pesant d’or. KUNAMAKA serait-il le seul volcan encore en activité dans le Puy De Dôme ? A suivre…
