C’est la marche nuptiale qui ouvre cet album et le ton est donné : de la déconne, de la bière au gallon, de la rigolade, du vomi partout et du Punk Rock 100% pur fun. Les Anglais de PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES (référence aux TOYS DOLLS pour les initiés) œuvrent dans un style que l’on avait plutôt l’habitude d’entendre dans les années 80, dire à quel point ce A Foot Full of Bullets parait extrêmement décalé en 2006.
Pourtant les intentions sont bonnes au départ et le son pour un album de Punk Rock est largement au dessus du lot si l’on repense à tout ce qu’il a pu se faire par le passé. Le groupe évolue sous la forme d’un trio guitare/basse/batterie et fait plus de bruit qu’un train de marchandises lancé en pleine campagne. Les thèmes abordés sont sans surprise : bières, nanas, anarchie et désordre, bref PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES n’a pas inventé le fil à couper le beurre et après tout ce n’est pas ce qu’on leur demande aux bougres. Les titres s’enchaînent les uns aux autres et la différence n’existe semble t-il que dans la façon dont le chant est déclamé, soit de façon tragi-comique comme sur « Traffic Jam Man » ou carrément parfois éthylique. « Ye Olde Pub Rocker » vous fait doucement rigoler avec son intro d’harmonica de fin de beuverie et son accent Cockney, alors que les chants de supporters et l’accordéon de « Smiling Through The Tears » vous rappellent sans trop de nostalgie les plus belles heures du hooliganisme anglais… Le dernier titre « All About Love » dure 13 interminables minutes et vous achève définitivement, si jamais il vous restait des forces.
Tout cela est bien joli, mais plus les titres succèdent aux titres et plus je trouve cet album indéfendable…
En repensant aux TOYS DOLLS justement, on s’aperçoit vite à quel point le fossé peut être énorme entre le fabuleux groupe original (toujours présent en 2006) et la triste copie que l’on entend ici. Un conseil d’ami : si vous ne supportez pas le Punk ou les ambiances de stade de football, passez votre chemin, mais pire : si vous aimez vraiment le Punk fuyez à toute jambes et ressortez plutôt vos vieux RAMONES du tiroir.
