Existant depuis déjà quelques années (le groupe s’est formé en 1998) LUNA FIELD propose son nouvel et deuxième album Diva chez Black Lotus, après avoir sorti en 2003 Close To Prime chez Season Of Mist. Ce groupe allemand nous délivre un Black/Death de bonne facture, mais qui ne révolutionne rien dans un style saturé artistiquement. La production est signée Alex Krull qui s’est préalablement occupé de groupe tels que ATROCITY ou BELPHEGOR. Il a apporté au groupe un son très puissant et moderne. Un peu trop peut-être, la production, trop catchy et trop propre manque de rugosité, d'agressivité. Le son mériterait d’être plus sale, à la limite du grésillant.
Par ce second album, LUNA FIELD nous démontre que ces mecs ont le sens du riff qui attaque, pointu et déstructuré : « Kill Bastard Kill » et surtout l’énorme « Camouflage », certainement le meilleur morceau de l’album. La présence de claviers bien utilisés mélangée à une voix grave (par moment guttural) donne de l’ampleur aux passages plus atmosphérique de Diva, comme sur « Full Vanity Fair » et « Diva Messiah ». Justement ce dernier morceau n’est pas du tout dans la lignée de l’album. L’influence Black/Doom devient très convaincante : une ambiance glaciale se dégage, le morceau se veut plaintif, langoureux et grandiose, d'une lenteur pesante.
Le groupe évolue tout au long de l'album avec une relative aisance et démontre qu'il maîtrise bien son sujet, alternant les passages haineux à côté de moments plus calmes. Cependant, on a l’impression que le groupe récite une leçon qu’il a apprise par cœur et que tout le monde connaît ! Certains morceaux comme « Jokers » donne la désagréable sensation de déjà entendu. On se serait attendu à plus de personnalité, et non à un enchaînement de plans téléphonés.
LUNA FIELD apparaît donc comme une valeur prometteuse qui manque un peu de personnalité. Les riffs sont trop stéréotypés. Il y a peu d’hétérogénéité dans compositions et on a du mal à distinguer un titre d’un autre. La progression des titres est également difficile à suivre.
