Paru un an auparavant et ayant connu un succès d’estime, ce disque ressort avec une nouvelle pochette et une distribution élargie.
Il faut le dire tout de suite : RIVERSIDE n’est absolument pas un groupe de Metal. Ces Polonais inspirés par PORCUPINE TREE et PINK FLOYD (entre autres) nous projettent dans un univers mélancolique, assez sombre où l’ambiance joue un rôle déterminant. En dehors de quelques riffs épars, Out Of Myself ne contentera pas les métalleux à moins d’être particulièrement sensible aux atmosphères savamment crées.
RIVERSIDE trouve le chemin des mélodies bien équilibrées, des structures complexes sans être engoncées dans un progressif prétentieux. Pour une fois, le propos ne consiste pas en un déballage de technique ou de complexité injustifiée. Tout est construit en finesse, avec une science qui force le respect.
On pourra tout de même reprocher certaines facilités, puisque le groupe nous livre parfois quelques redondances qui donnent l’impression que la musique tourne en rond (le final de « Reality Dream II » et plusieurs phrasés de guitare). De même, l’emploi d’effets sonores n’est pas très heureux : une sonnerie de téléphone, la radio qui cherche sa station, la foule, etc. Ce n’est ni très original, ni très constructif. Par ailleurs cela renforce les petits temps-morts - déjà nombreux - d’une musique très calme.
Ce sont les seuls défauts que l’on pourra relever à ce bon album, par ailleurs bien servi par sa production.
