WALTARI est un vieux groupe méconnu et, comme le dit l’adage : c’est dans les vieux pots qu’on fait la meilleure soupe. Cet album est en tout point remarquable. D’abord par son originalité ; le Pop/Electro/Happy Metal assez indéfinissable qui est pratiqué sur cet album est un vrai bol d’air dans un paysage musical bien terne cet été. Certes les incartades musicales qui font l’intérêt du groupe ne satisferont pas les puristes qui déploreront l’absence de puissance et la présence de nombreux passages électroniques, de refrains Pop, de passages barrés. Il est vrai que cet album est bigarré ; on pense à FAITH NO MORE, KYYRIA, HIM, LOUD et un tas d’autres trucs.
L’album part très fort avec les deux singles “One Day” et “Life Without Love” qui pourraient aisément être retenus pour des passages radio. Les trois suivants sont à peine en dessous avec leur refrain efficace et des mélodies sorties d’on ne sait où. “My Pain” est très agréable mais elle me fait terriblement penser à un titre de THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. “Quick As A Day” est un Rapp qui vient mesurer les limites de mon ouverture musicale : pas terrible ! “Dream” est une ballade qui pourrait figurer dans la discographie de STEVE VAI. “Alone” est un titre hybride avec un chant rappé qui semble être interprété par Dr. Evil, le fond est éléctro/indus et le refrain est une mélodie aigüe façon Patrick Juvet (je vous jure !). “Live This” est un peu faiblarde. “Wasting My Mind” est un morceau plus conventionnel avec de la bonne guitare et un chant obsédant (le passage du milieu fait penser à BEASTIE BOYS). Puis on termine en beauté avec le medley “No Limit/Your Funky Rythm/Symphony Of Destruction” : l’Electro/Pop se transformant en Hip Hop pour se poursuivre en gros Heavy façon MEGADETH, c’est incroyable mais vrai !
Seul un groupe ayant des heures de vol peut accoucher d’un tel ovni. Il suffit de voir le nombre de groupes cités dans cette chronique pour constater que WALTARI ne se contente pas de schémas musicaux classiques.
Si les singles ont la particularité de se retenir immédiatement, le reste de l’album nécessitera plusieurs écoutes pour être apprivoisé. Ces écoutes je les recommande vivement aux plus ouverts d’entre vous, car je ne peux plus me passer de ce disque !
