WIG WAM (no) - 667 The Neighbour Of The Beast (2004)

Avec un logo façon KISS, un look de glamouzes et un titre d’album pareil, que penser de WIG WAM ? Pas facile à cerner. L’intro “667” nous fait craindre une parodie grossière de IRON MAIDEN et… pas du tout ! C’est de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique que le groupe puise ses influences.
On flirte avec WARRANT, GREAT WHITE ou Billy IDOL. Le groupe affectionne les refrains imparables et nous en offre à foison. Chaque morceau est prétexte à des chœurs rappelant fortement les années 80. Et il faut avouer que ça fonctionne plutôt bien : “Hard To Be A Rock’N Roller” et “I Turn To You” (entre autres) ayant un fort potentiel commercial. A force de se repaître de bon vieux Glam-Metal, le groupe a acquit un savoir-faire évident et il est même à l’aise sur les ballades “Out Of Time” et “Tell Me Where To Go”.
Notons le gentil clin d’œil à Eddy Van Halen avec l’instrumental “Erection” qui reprend des parties de “Eruption”.
Même si, visiblement, le groupe ne se prend pas au sérieux et sort cet album sous le signe de l’humour et de la bonne humeur, les morceaux n’ont rien de risibles tant la qualité est présente de bout en bout.
Le seul problème est que cette jovialité continuelle fini par être un peu écœurante à la longue. WIG WAM est une peu comme ces desserts américains : c’est super bon, mais on est vite rassasié.
