Après quatre années d'absence, les grecs de The Elysian Fields refont surface avec leur quatrième offrande sous le coude. Reconnu pour être un groupe original de part son choix de plus en plus affirmé pour son côté mélodique mais surtout pour son penchant pour l'electro et autres rythmes "dansants".
Autant le dire de suite, cette fois-ci, l'orientation electro prend une part prédominante et met en avant ses nappes de claviers qui ne sont pas du meilleur effet à cause d'un son très naïf et d'une mise en avant dans le mix trop excessive. Sans parler d'une batterie électronique, qui pour la plupart des morceaux, détonne du reste. A noter que c'est le guitariste qui s'est collé derrière le clavier, il devrait se concentrer uniquement sur ses parties de guitares qui restent assez faiblardes mais il est largement plus convainquant qu'avec son bontempi et ses mélodies très banales.
La production n'est vraiment pas du meilleur effet et le mix, comme je le disais plus haut, mise tout sur les sons synthétiques. Le chant Death plaintif et écorché de Bill A. reste le point le plus apodictique sans pour autant être transcendant mais au milieu de ce flot de déceptions, il se détache aisément du reste.
Cela peut paraître un peu sévère comme jugement mais l'orientation choisie par le groupe est trop prononcée et d'une qualité peu convaincante. Et sous prétexte que l'évolution est généralement une bonne chose, on finit par changer d'orientation stylistique... Je ne suis pas d'accord avec ce principe. Si tous les groupes de Death se mettent à faire de la soupe pour "dancefloor", où allons nous ?
Au final, je pense que The Elysian Fields perdra une grosse partie de son ancien public mais peut être arrivera t-il à en convaincre un nouveau. Fan d'Electro Metal "extrême" à la sauce grec agrémenté d'une production pauvrette, ce disque se positionnera fièrement dans ta discothèque au milieu de ses congénères.
