Ce qui est bien avec JEFF SCOTT SOTO c’est qu’il aime la guitare. Il n’a pas peur de sortir l’artillerie avec de bons riffs et des solos majestueux. Il s’agit probablement de l’héritage de sa collaboration passée avec Yngwie Malmsteen. Cet album en est le parfait exemple : alors que l’on craignait d’être submergé par un flot de ballades, JSS durcit le ton et met du vin dans son eau.
A la guitare on retrouve le remarquable Howie Simon qui avait favorablement impressionné lors de sa performance sur le Live At The Gods et dont le jeu n’a pas perdu en vélocité. On note aussi la présence du remarquable Neal Schon (JOURNEY, HARDLINE) sur “Believe In Me”. D’un bout à l’autre de l’album, les parties de guitares sont superbes ; elles dynamisent encore des compositions déjà plus énergiques que d’habitude. Seul deux ballades et un titre acoustique viennent calmer le jeu, c'est très peu si l'on y oppose les riffs carrément Heavy de “On My Way” ou de “Drowning”. Les autres titres ne sont pas en reste avec des harmoniques qui sifflent entre les accords, des phrasés intéressants et des solos impériaux (les connaisseurs peuvent se plonger dans l’écoute de chaque solo : c’est du bonheur pur). Peu de surprise coté chant, c’est impeccable comme d’habitude.
Fidèle à son habitude JSS nous livre donc un album de Hard mélodique de très bonne facture, avec de jolies mélodies, des refrains travaillés et surtout un caractère qui doit prendre toute son ampleur en concert.
