Pour ma première chronique, j’ai décidé de me faire plaisir et de rendre hommage à MOURNING BELOVETH, qui avec son The Sullen Sulcus a tout simplement modifié ma perception du Doom.
The Sullen Sulcus est le deuxième album de la formation irlandaise désormais reconnue comme un des pionniers du Doom Metal. Et que dire, si ce n'est que leur réputation est largement méritée.
The Sullen Sulcus est un véritable chef d'œuvre du Doom/Death Metal, véritable ode à la tristesse et à la mélancolie. Avec ses parties de guitares splendides et mélodiques à souhait, la voix de Darren Moore qui nous en met plein les oreilles avec une hargne et une puissance impressionnante et celle, plus Heavy de Frank qui est là pour nous apporter un peu de calme dans ce terrifiant chaos. On est envouté dès les premières notes, avec une mention spéciale pour des titres tels que "It Almost Look Human" qui après à peine deux notes nous met déjà une claque énormissime en pleine face et "Anger's Streaming Arrow" qui nous plonge musicalement dans un univers quasi-magique. En tout cas moi, il me met en transe.
The Sullen Sulcus est un album des plus simple, sans artifices, ni piano, ni chant féminin, mais d'une force et d'un naturel envoutant. Il allie sublimement la violence du Death et la tristesse, la beauté et la lourdeur si caractéristique du Doom, au gré de 6 titres passionnants, que l'on pourrait écouter encore et encore, inlassablement.
MOURNING BELOVETH a frappé fort, très fort, en offrant une pièce maîtresse, indispensable à toutes discographies de "doomeux" qui se respecte, et que j’invite à découvrir, rien que pour pouvoir gouter à cette sensation indescriptible, mais tellement bonne, de se délecter d’un chef d’œuvre planant et tellement prenant.
