WALLS OF JERICHO, le nom me disait vaguement quelque chose pour avoir lu un article sur eux dans une revue. Et puis, j’étais curieux de voir ce que ce petit bout de femme toute tatouée qu’est Candace Kucsulain avait dans le ventre. En plus, Redemption est produit par Corey Taylor de SLIPKNOT et STONE SOUR, je me suis donc dit que ça allait me secouer les balloches quelque chose de bien.
« Ember Drive » commence en acoustique, ok, bonne intro. Seulement, elle est vachement longue l’intro ! Et là, je sens qu’il y a cachalot sous gravier. Merde, c’est un album acoustique auquel je vais avoir le droit. Non pas que je n’aime pas ça, mais je n’aime pas me faire avoir sur la marchandise. Donc bon, j’écoute cela avec une petite pointe d’espoir d’avoir une dose de niak quelque part sur les cinq morceaux. Mais il n’y en a pas. Il y a bien quelques incursions de distorsion à partir de « Not Saving Me », mais ça doit venir des laboratoires Boiron. Je me mets donc en mode résigné et tente d’apprécier à sa juste valeur ce cinq titres acoustique. Même si on ne peut nier que « Ember Drive » possède quelques atouts, le reste est assez mou du genou et sans réelle émotion. On est charmé par la voix de Candace, mais cela ne fait pas tout. Les quelques incursions de Corey ne relève pas non plus trop la sauce. Et puis, il faut bien dire que la reprise de « House Of The Rising Sun », plus connue en France avec la reprise de Johnny, « Le Pénitencier » (que certaines mauvaises langues appellent « Le Pénis Entier »), a fini de m’achever. Là, j’ai craqué.
J’avoue que je ne sais pas où situer ce Redemption. J’ai la vague impression que cela relève de la même démarche artistique qu’avaient pu avoir ALICE IN CHAINS avec Jar Of Flies, mais je ne vois pas trop où cela peut mener ce groupe connu plutôt pour sa hargne. Ils peuvent montrer qu’ils savent faire autre chose, mais cela ne risque-t-il pas d’effrayer ceux qui les suivent ? En tous cas, je ne suis pas certain que tout le monde adhère, à moins d’apprécier les ballades mélancoliques et acides.
