Il y a des albums comme ça qui vous inspirent avant même d’avoir écouté le moindre titre … Un nom de groupe qui vous séduit, une pochette qui vous en met plein la vue. Avec BLACKWINDS, c’est exactement ça. Alors vous creusez un peu, et vous découvrez une bio à peine instructive, qui entretient largement le mystère, comme pour donner plus de "charme" à un combo dont les thèmes de prédilection sont la Mort, le Diable, l’Annihilation.
BLACKWINDS, c’est à la base le projet du batteur Lord Mysteriis (SETHERIAL), et en ce qui concerne le reste du line-up vous n’en saurez pas plus car les infos ne sont pas légions … Et à dire vrai peu importe de savoir qui fait quoi. Flesh Inferno est clairement marqué de la patte de Mysteriis, étant donné que le musicien nous livre une prestation tout juste exceptionnelle sur ses fûts et maîtrise la double grosse caisse comme un roi.
Tout laisse à penser que cet album est l’œuvre d’un batteur, à l’image de la structure des morceaux : ça commence en trombes, à fond la caisse, avant de faire place à un rythme plus modéré, impérial et majestueux. Les « Before Time », « Flesh Inferno », « Plague Bringer » ou « Seraphim Ephemeral » sont de cet acabit.
Tôt ou tard BLACKWINDS finit par reprendre ce tempo diabolique qui caractérise le Black, mais les références sont bien là et par de nombreux instants on croirait entendre EMPEROR à l’époque de In The Nightside Eclipse (aaahh, ce clavier envoûtant et traître … comme on l’aime). Et même sur certains passages le DIMMU BORGIR de Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, lorsque BLACKWINDS joue sur les ambiances sur l’intro et le break de « Architexture Of Phantasmagoria » (ces petites notes discrètes de clavecin), voire sur l’intégralité de « Conceptualizing The Devil ».
La différence avec les groupes de Black Metal précités se fait peut-être au niveau des riffs, puisque ici ils ne sont d’aucune originalité, mais comme on l’a dit plus haut, Flesh Inferno n’est sûrement pas le travail d’un gratteux fou. La voix du chanteur, tantôt damnée, tantôt dominante, a son importance dans l’élaboration et l’impact de chaque titre.
Ces derniers mois METAL IMPACT m’a gâté avec SEAR et DEATHCHAIN. Grâce à BLACKWINDS, la tradition se perpétue. Et dans "perpétue", il y a "tue".
