Une pochette qui, il faut bien le dire, n'attire pas vraiment l'œil (pourtant le motif choisit est très beau, mais pas assez mis en valeur) et n’aiguise pas les papilles auditives, un concept d’un seul homme qui pourrait paraître bizarre, et pourtant… pourtant derrière cet écrin aux allures communes se cache une véritable perle rare. H.O.P.E. (HUMAN OR PAIN EXISTENCE) est le projet de Nicolas Alkariis, qui n’en est pas à ses premiers pas sur la scène Metal. Seulement, ici, pas de filet, personne pour lui tenir la main. Il a bien invité des petits copains pour jouer dans le bac à sable avec lui (Athevros (ENDLESS AGONY) pour les guitares et le chant Death, Alex (ORDALIA) pour la basse et Ruddy pour la voix claire), mais c’est son château, sa piste de voiture à lui tout seul. Et on peut dire qu’il l’a soigné, son joli château tout beau.
Dés le premier titre, on sent que ce que l’on va écouter sort de l’ordinaire. Ce n’est pas du bon gros Metal qui tâche, ce n’est pas non plus de la pop mielleuse, ni de l’electro insipide. Rien de tout cela. Néanmoins, la musique de H.O.P.E. prend des influences dans un peu tout ça, les mélange, les triture, les crache une première fois, tout humecté de bave, et recommence le processus pour donner naissance à cet univers tripant, violent, décadent, tout en étant, aussi, sobre, enivrant et jouissif.
Un morceau comme « Le château noir » n’est pas sans rappeler certains passages de Divine Symphonies d’AKHENATON (non, pas le rappeur d’IAM !) dans les ambiances ou les passages speed, ou même la production générale. Si on prend cette base et qu’on la mixe avec des trips à la MISANTHROPE, on obtient l’idée générale de ce morceau. Et cette sauce peut s’appliquer aussi aux autres morceaux en y ajoutant un zest de PINK FLOYD ou de tout autre groupe de rock qui a fait du psyché dans son enfance (ANGE, quand tu nous tiens). « Absinthe » nous fait rentrer dans un trip plus posé, dés l’intro tout en rythmes electro, mais sait déchaîner sa rage quand il le faut. On pourra noter aussi un dernier morceau instrumental vraiment planant, « H.O.P.E. », avec une guitare saturée qui arrive à point nommé pour casser le rythme, sans prendre trop de place.
D’une manière générale, le mixage de l’album est bon. On entend vraiment chaque partie distinctement. L’ambiance que Nicolas a voulu faire passer est bien rendue et on y plonge avec délice. Le seul point noir vient peut-être de la production qui aurait méritée un chouia de pèche en plus. Mais bon, au vu de la qualité de l’ensemble, c’est un point vraiment mineur. Souhaitons en tous cas à H.O.P.E. une bonne continuité. Il le mérite amplement.
