Bien qu’existant de puis près de 10 ans et ayant déjà sorti 3 albums, SHORTIE est resté dans l’ombre pour la meilleure raison du monde : il n’y a pas grand chose à en dire !
Les californiens cherchent à ancrer leur style dans le mouvement bien à la mode : un Metal dynamique teinté de Hardcore prépubère et de refrains Pop bénéficiant d’une grosse production. Hélas, ils accumulent aussi les poncifs en n’ajoutant pas grand chose. Ainsi, cet album respire l’insipidité et la fadeur ; malgré sa relative brièveté, on a continuellement envie de zapper à la chanson suivante, cependant on est bien vite rattrapé par l’effarante banalité des compositions qui ne nous laissent pas souvent l’occasion de nous réjouir.
L’interprétation est juste mais, là encore, pas franchement enthousiasmante. Le chanteur devient vite insupportable avec son timbre de voix insignifiant, il peut prétendre devenir l’icône de la banalité. Pourtant, il ne ménage pas ses efforts, le bougre : voix saturée, chant clair, agressif, mégaphone,... il utilise tous les artifices, en vain.
Qu’on ne voit pas ici une diatribe contre le nu Metal, je n’ai rien contre ce style. D’ailleurs cet album n’est pas franchement mauvais, c’est juste qu’il n’a vraiment rien pour sortir du lot et qu’il collectionne les banalités en se laissant porter par la mode.
