Après l’album de la reformation et l’album des démos retrouvées, voici donc le double live. La boucle est bouclée. Le label Frontiers a exploité le filon au maximum.
Qu’on le veuille ou non, WINGER est l’un des groupes de Hard Rock mélodique mythique des années 80. Il a suscité les moqueries des partisans d’une musique plus extrême avec beaucoup plus de hargne que les autres groupes du même style. Autant dire que ce retour n’était pas attendu par tous !
On avait déjà pris conscience du nombre impressionnant de tubes que le groupe a écrit, lorsque la compile de démos est sortie il y a quelques mois de cela. Donc pas d’effet de surprise ce coup-ci, mais toujours un certain plaisir à redécouvrir des titres qui n’ont rien perdu de leur efficacité.
De très belles mélodies, des refrains entêtants, un son de guitares très particulier avec des solos soignés, bref du lourd, de l’imparable.
En toute logique, WINGER a décidé de brosser l’intégralité de sa carrière. C’est l’occasion de confirmer que le dernier album studio est largement en dessous des précédents.
Les adaptations live sont très fidèles aux originales. On notera juste un petit clin d’œil amusant sur “Seventeen”, avec un refrain qui change légèrement – c’est que le temps a passé.
Le son est bon, dans l’ensemble.
On n’échappera à l’incontournable solo de batterie, toujours aussi chiant.
Cet album est un vestige, il faut le prendre comme tel.
