Le chanteur de ALIAS sort un album solo qu’il prépare depuis de nombreuses années. Enfin, ça c’est ce qu’il dit, parce que vu le résultat…
Commençons par le fonds : Freddy Curci connaît son métier et nous offre quelques titres bien foutus tels que « Dangerous » avec ces riffs crus façon Hard Rock old school mais agrémenté d’un refrain accrocheur. On trouve aussi des morceaux plus commerciaux comme « How Much Longer Is Forever ». Et, évidemment les ballades soporifiques (« The Devil’s Dance », « I’m Running Home »). Tout ceci est bien sympathique mais on a quand même du mal à être pleinement convaincu. D’une part ce n’est pas bien nouveau, d’autre part ça n’a rien de renversant. Curci et sa bande se contentent souvent d’accumuler les facilités.
Mais le vrai scandale de cet album, c’est sa production. Il n’y a qu’un mot : calamiteuse ! Quel que soit l’intérêt que l’on porte aux albums du label Frontiers (spécialisé dans le Hard FM), il est incontestable que la qualité du produit est toujours impeccable. Or ici, c’est l’accident de parcours. Mais le bel accident, hein, avec des morts et tout ! Parce qu’on a l’impression que cet album a été enregistré dans le tunnel du Mont-Blanc un jour d’incendie. Sons étouffés, voix lointaine, guitare horrible (« How Much Longer… »), souffle, etc. Tout ce qu’on ne doit pas faire est concentré dans cet album aux allures de démo.
