Il y a des jours comme ça ou on n’a pas vraiment envie de réfléchir et de se prendre le cabochon et d’aller droit au fond des choses, sans détours ni fioritures. Des jours ou lorsque l’on pose sur la plateau de sa chaîne une petite galette, on a juste l’envie d’un son brutal et qui va à l’essentiel : vous détendre et vous prendre une bonne grosse claque qui vous fera oublier le reste de la journée, le boulot, le métro et tout les gens qui gravitent autour.
MY DARKEST HATE est de ces groupes là, formé en 1990 le combo Allemand n’a apparemment qu’une chose en tête : faire les choses brutes et bien. Le quatrième album de ce groupe teutons qui a roulé sa bosse sur la scène européenne se nomme Combat Area et de combat il est question durant 40 minutes pied au plancher.
Ce qui frappe d’entrée c’est le son du brûlot qui est compact comme une charge de rhinocéros sous amphétamine, épais comme une crème fraiche à 80% de matières grasses, l’essence même du son Death Metal par définition.
Le groupe s’appuie sur une paire de guitaristes sonnant comme un seul homme, cette cohésion ne fait que renforcer ce sentiment d’unité que dégage MY DARKEST HATE car la section rythmique signale sa présence imposante tout au long des 10 titres de l’album grâce à un batteur de très bonne tenue et un bassiste qui n’est pour une fois pas aux abonnés absent. Le vocaliste Chris Simper n’a plus qu’a apposé son timbre parfois profondément Death (« Enter Combat »), parfois furieusement Grind (« When The Smoke Has Settle ») sur l’ensemble pour rendre le tout encore plus homogène.
Décidément ce Combat Area transforme l’essai sans retenu et réussi à produire l’effet escompté : violent et brutal comme un coup de pied à l’estomac, à écouter d’urgence pour ceux qui en ont gros sur la patate. Quelques grammes de brutalité dans ce monde de finesse. Vivement le passage en Europe !
