Considéré par beaucoup comme le meilleur album de Thrash Metal de tous les temps, SLAYER nous prouve à travers cette ode à la brutalité que la durée n’est pas forcément un facteur d’intensité. Reign In Blood ne dure que 29 petites minutes, pour 10 morceaux taillés dans le roc et gravés à tout jamais dans la mémoire de millions de Metalfreaks.
Ce disque ne comprend que des classiques, c’est bien simple, la plupart du temps, on s’enfile cet album comme un simple morceau de 29 minutes.... De "Angel Of Death" à "Raining Blood", pas une seule seconde de répit : ça pilonne, ça tabasse, ça dévaste et on ressort comme après un passage à la moulinette. L’effet de ces morceaux étant imparable en live, ce n’est pas par hasard que le groupe en distille 3 ou 4 inévitablement à chaque concerts.
La rythmique se partage entre Kerry King et Jeff Hanneman, paire de gratteux immuable et principaux compositeurs de la musique de SLAYER depuis les tout débuts du groupe en 1983. Ces deux là nous avaient habitués à du boulot bien fait, mais là, ca dépasse l’entendement... Les riffs sont exécutés de manière supersonique, le tout appuyé par Dave « God » Lombardo au meilleur de sa forme. Pas un pain, pas une fausse note, les solos démoniaques de la paire King/Hanneman viennent achever de transformer chaque morceau en mini film d’horreur, ambiance comprise (cf. la pluie qui clôture "Raining Blood").
Mention spéciale également à Tom Araya qui n’a jamais aussi bien chanté que sur cet album. Le cri d’intro du tout premier morceau "Angel of Death" vous indique tout de suite la marche à suivre, on met le volume à 10 et on se laisse transporter !
Un album cultissime qui va bientôt fêter ses 20 ans, mais qui n’a pas pris une ride, merci à monsieur Rick Rubin pour la production ENORME de cet album, un album qui vous suivra dans votre tombe...
