Après un album auto-produit, EILERA nous revient avec un EP signé chez Spinefarm et enregistré en Finlande au célèbre studio Finnvox.
Il est toujours question d’émotions puisque la paire française (Eilera au chant et Loïc Tézénas à la guitare) privilégie les ambiances. Mais le propos est davantage orienté Metal, avec quelques surgissements de riffs et une rythmique dynamique. C’est notamment le cas sur “The Angel You Love, The Angel You Hate” où les passages plus musclés (guitare saturée, rythmique lourde, chant crié) arrivent en crescendo et disparaissent en decrescendo au cœur même da la chanson. Adroit.
Pour le reste, le duo s’est entouré de musiciens classiques et traditionnels afin d’apporter de nombreuses touches de violon et de violoncelle mais surtout d’instruments Folk. Car l’intonation celtique est présente sur chaque morceau de façon plus ou moins évidente.
Il faut absolument parler du chant d’Eilera qui véhicule beaucoup d’émotions sans jamais reproduire les travers des (trop) nombreux groupes à pseudo-cantatrice. La voix d’Eilera est un instrument à part entière, dont le but n’est pas la démonstration mais bien de se mettre au service de la musique et de l’univers qu’elle crée. Pour ce faire, elle passe volontiers de la fragilité (entre Björk et Dolores des CRANBERRIES) aux hurlements, en passant par la Pop.
Si EILERA est incontestablement un groupe de Folk Metal, ce terme est infiniment réducteur car il ne tient pas compte des multiples éléments qui composent cette musique et qui en font sa force.
La production de Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, SENTENCED) est remarquable.
