Poxt Spring Rebirth: The Architect's Art On The Failure Of Creation est le deuxième mouvement d'un ambitieux projet en quatre parties (quatre saisons pour être exact) réalisé par le groupe de Post Metal espagnol LAST SON. Le gang est composé de cinq musiciens : Dre Toledo (guitare), Enrique Grivas (voix), Carlos Moreno (batterie), Pablo Huertas (guitare) et Diego Sanchez (basse).
A ce jour, les deux premiers mouvements sont sortis exactement à un an d'intervalle. Le 20 mars 2014 pour Primal Winter, The Son's Arrival Into Death et le 20 mars 2015 pour Poxt Spring Rebirth. Espérons que les ibères pourront tenir le rythme soutenu qu'ils se sont imposés et sortir le printemps et l'automne car le projet mérite vraiment qu'on y tende l'oreille, bien qu'il n'ait pas encore trouvé son public, aucun des deux opus n'ayant été "acheté" sur Bandcamp à l'heure où j'écris cette chronique.
Pas de concept album sans une histoire qui sert de trame à la setlist. C'est le jour d'après la fin du monde. L'humanité a été décimée par une ère glaciaire et le dernier homme s'éveille en un froid matin de mars pour constater qu'il est tout seul. Les disques racontent ses pérégrinations et ce qui lui passe par la tête. Sa surprise, son désir (passager) de se donner la mort pour échapper à la solitude. L'arrivée du printemps, coïncidant avec une éclipse solaire sauve heureusement notre héros dont le moral remonte en flèche quand il est témoin de l'explosion de la vie sous toutes ses formes. Seul et ultime représentant de son espèce, notre héros commence quant à lui à évoluer vers quelque chose d'autre, une conscience dépassant son état d'humain. LAST SON : nul besoin d'être grand clerc pour comprendre que le nom de la formation fait intégralement partie de son projet. On n'a pas affaire à un groupe qui sort un concept album mais bien à un concept global autour d'une idée. Une idée développée dans tous ses aspects, à commencer par les artwork, splendides, des deux premiers efforts.
On peut, bien sûr, écouter Poxt Spring Rebirth sans connaître l'histoire mais l'immersion n'est que plus grande quand on sait où la musique nous emmène. Et pour ce qui est de l'immersion, nos cinq copains savent y faire. Il faut cependant se mettre dans de bonnes conditions pour apprécier le voyage. Ce n'est définitivement pas la musique à écouter en faisant du bicross en forêt ou pendant que votre conjoint passe l'aspirateur. Préférez la sérénité d'un dimanche ensoleillé, quand la famille est partie en promenade post-prandiale. Allongé dans un bon fauteuil, le casque vissé au crâne, un dernier verre, un bon cigare ou un bon café à la main. Alors on peut lancer la lecture et se laisser emporter par la musique, là où elle jugera bon de nous emmener. Sur les pas de ce dernier fils de l'homme perdu sur cette planète désertée… <rb>
Il suffit d'une courte intro atmosphérique et des premières mesures de "The Last Was Of Rebirth (Part I)" pour être pris par la musique et accueillir les envolées progressives et le growl mélodique de Enrique Grivas comme des évidences. En toute simplicité, LAST SON parvient à retranscrire l'histoire et les sentiments du personnage. Le groupe emprunte pour y parvenir différentes voies musicales, du Hard Rock au Black Metal en passant par le Doom ou le Mathcore. Une proposition musicale complexe et protéiforme qui ne s'enferme pas dans une case et ose différentes recettes pour parvenir à exprimer les sentiments du dernier fils.
A tous ceux qui aiment les surprises, qui sont las de ces albums monochromes et de ces projets sans autre ambition que de reprendre la recette qui a fait le succès de X ou Y, cet opus est pour vous. A tous les amateurs du Metal sous toutes ses formes, ce disque est pour vous. Il ne se livrera pas lors d'une première écoute et demandera peut-être un peu de concentration pour exprimer sa substantifique moelle. Mais à la fin, vous serez heureux d'y avoir consacré un peu de votre temps, et vous attendrez le prochain 20 mars avec une certaine impatience.
