ÄHN (FRA) - We Don't Trust In What You Believe (2013)

On sait que la France n'est pas contente, pas optimiste, que le peuple est peu amène de faire montre d'empathie, mais visiblement certains ont besoin de le montrer d'une façon encore plus véhémente et sans compromis que les autres.
Ainsi, du nord de notre beau (?) pays, de Lille plus précisément, s'élève depuis l'été dernier la voix haineuse de ÄHN. Peu de renseignements filtrent quant à leurs motivations, leur passé ou leurs ambitions, leur bandcamp étant vierge de toute bio, de même que leur page facebook, ce qui rend difficile tout travail de promotion. Mais peut être est ce mieux ainsi, la musique parlant pour elle même.
Et si cet EP est sorti en pleine chaleur estivale, en pleine effervescence des congés aoûtiens, il est difficile de le rattacher à une joie quelconque tant celui ci transpire la haine, la misanthropie et la noirceur. Corrompu jusqu'à l'os par un mélange poisseux de Post Hardcore sinistre et de Post Black lugubre et intensif, We Don't Trust In What You Believe fait de son titre un véritable postulat qui ne laisse aucune place au doute. Les musiciens de ÄHN sont dangereux, en colère, et comptent bien exposer leurs vues sans prendre de gants.
Les quatre morceaux de We Don't Trust In What You Believe sont faits d'ambiances délétères, de riffs sombres et dissonants, d'une alternance d'ultra brutalité et de pesanteur oppressante. Clairement scindé en deux thématiques, il propose deux morceaux long format de plus de sept minutes, "The Loneliness Of God" et "The Awareness Of Nothingness", ainsi que deux autres plus courts mais plus abrasifs, "The Wayward Son And The Jealous God" et "The One Hundred".
"The Loneliness Of God" est une longue litanie juxtaposant des segments de violence pure et des climats plus lourds. En sa première moitié, des éléments Hardcore s'opposent, qu'ils soient traditionnels ou plus contemporains, tandis que son long final se teinte d'un Black aux teintes sèches et maladives.
"The Wayward Son And The Jealous God", grosse déflagration de moins de trois minutes, n'est que haine viscérale, sur fond de tempo versatile, hésitant sans cesse entre la vitesse pure, et le martèlement Hardcore.
"The Awareness Of Nothingness" hypnotise avec sa longue intro instrumentale dissonante, coalition de guitares grinçantes et d'une basse grondante et disharmonique. Puis la voix vient déchirer le tableau en un cri inhumain, avant que la progression collective ne prenne des allures inquiétantes. Chant écorché au possible, longues lacérations, batterie sans attache, tout contribue à perdre l'auditeur en un labyrinthe de noirceur.
Puis l'agression sans détour de "The One Hundred" vient mettre un terme à la souffrance, en résumant le propos de manière concise. Une fois de plus, les accélérations subites déstabilisent, et nous laissent sans corde de rappel lorsque le rythme s'écrase sur un mur vocal strident.
En outre, le groupe a eu la bonne idée d'utiliser quelques samples vocaux qui appuient le propos, et humanisent encore un peu plus la personnification de leur démarche. Ne pas refuser l'humanité, mais la combattre, à travers ses idéaux rances et dépassés. Ainsi l'album s'écoute comme une philosophie personnelle, ce qui rend l'identification entre plus concrète.
En somme, un gros travail a été accompli avec ce premier jet. ÄHN a utilisé les codes du Post Black pour se les approprier, et fait montre d'un gros potentiel, qu'ils vont utiliser à plein régime dans un futur proche, j'en suis persuadé.
