C’est toujours pareil. On peut s’appeler Stephenie Meyer, Kad et Olivier ou même TREPALIUM, quand on annonce une suite à son œuvre, ça suscite toujours une certaine forme de curiosité (sauf peut-être pour « Kadéo »). Et dans le cas de nos amis Charentais, la qualité des deux premiers volets de leur triptyque, Alchemik Clockwork Of Disorder en 2006 et XIII en 2009 ont eu vite fait de transformer cette curiosité en engouement. Fidèles à une certaine forme de cohérence spatiotemporelle, avec un album pondu tous les trois ans, TREPALIUM a donc logiquement sauté dans la brèche ouverte par l’année 2012 pour refermer en beauté sa saga, avec un H.N.P. (pour Heic Noenum Pax, une locution latine néologisée, à moins qu’elle ne soit un hommage improbable à l’œuvre passée de MAYHEM ou, plus impossible tu meurs, un clin d’œil à la première démo de MALLEUS MALEFICARUM datant de 1999) pour le moins attendu.
Désormais signés sur l’omniprésente Klonosphère et forts d’une réputation qui a, depuis bien longtemps, dépassé nos frontières hexagonales, les TREPALIUM ont fait appel pour cette sortie à l’excellent Thibault Chaumont du Deviant Lab Studio, lequel s’est occupé notamment du son en live pour GOJIRA ou ADAGIO et à déjà mixé et/ou masterisé pour des groupes comme 7th NEMESIS, DYSFUNCTIONAL, KLONE ou NOEIN. On peut dors et déjà pronostiquer qu’H.N.P. dégagera une puissance de feu. C’est bel et bien le cas. L’album s’ouvre sur « Heic Noenum Pax » dont l’intro est signée Yann Ligner de KLONE. Et déjà, on retrouve ce dédoublement de personnalité propre à la musique de TREPALIUM. Un Death Metal alambiqué, spontané et puissant, nuancé de mid-tempos éléphantesques, d’arpèges soudains, un peu jazzys sur les bords et soutenus par la voix murmurée de KK, de structures complexes, qui jonglent entre une folie robotique et une froideur industrielle. Ces messieurs semblent avoir acquis, tout au long de leur parcours, une vraie densité musicale. Le songwriting s’est considérablement affiné. On retrouve au cœur de l’ouvrage des chapitres extrêmement poignants, qui flirtent à l’abri des regards indiscrets avec la fluidité exotique du Jazz funky. Et bien sur, il y a le groove, élément incontournable de leur œuvre qui a développé cette personnalité corsée, fruitée comme un arabica. On le retrouve sous forme de bruine, de brouillard. Il enveloppe ce Death Metal touffu de manière aussi naturelle qu’un crachin en Bretagne et parfois, il explose. C’est le cas d’« Insane Architect », sur laquelle on pourrait presque imaginer une chorégraphie de Rock acrobatique, tant ses motifs sont dansants. Déroutant sans être labyrinthique, passionnant sans être addictif, violent sans être létal, H.N.P. a toutes les qualités qu’un groupe comme DAATH n’a pas. Ne s’engouffrant jamais dans les méandres de la cérébralité à deux balles, laissant toujours un néon allumé pour ses auditeurs, ce full-lenght à beau naviguer entre l’intriguant (« Order The Labyrinth ») et le psychotrope (« The Worst F(r)iend »), il ne perd jamais pied et brille par son efficacité très aléatoire. Il convient de conclure en soulignant que ce disque, qui durant plus d’une demi-heure, caresse la verge triomphante d’un PANTERA, adresse à ces derniers une ultime léchouille en reprenant de façon très fidèle mais également très robuste et en compagnie de Luiss Roux de SINSCALE, leur tube absolu forever & ever ; « I’m Broken », présent sur l’album Far Beyond Driven de 1994.
C’était la dernière séquence, c’était la dernière séance. H.N.P. est venu, a vu et forcément, a vaincu. Une victoire peut-être trop prévisible, mais l’adage qui dit qu’a vaincre sans péril, on triomphe sans gloire ne se vérifie pas ici. TREPALIUM n’a certes pas d’adversaire qui pourrait lui tenir la dragée haute, mais son succès a quand même des arômes de triomphe. Désormais, plus personne ne pourra leur enlever ce triptyque, qui est venu poser une griffe indélébile dans le grand livre d’or du Metal français.
