Michael KISKE est un cas à part sur la scène Metal internationale. Il ne cesse de clamer haut et fort qu’il ne veut rien avoir à faire avec ce style musical et continue d’empiler les albums, qui vont de la pure anecdote au pathétique pur et dur.
Difficile de juger cet homme dont la voix est certainement une des plus belles du Hard-Rock, au même titre que Geoff TATE, Tony HARNELL, ou encore Rob HALFORD. Mais force est d’admettre qu’il aura donné à HELLOWEEN ses deux meilleurs (Keeper Part I & II) et ses deux pires albums (Chameleon, Pink Bubbles Go Ape), et que depuis, pas grand-chose…
D’albums solo en groupes fantoches, la crédibilité du bonhomme n’a cessé de péricliter, et je dois bien avouer que les déclarations de Mickael WEIKATH au lendemain de son départ des citrouilles devaient avoir du vrai. Sans s’appesantir ici sur le cas SUPARED, qui reste quand même son pire témoignage, il faut être clair quand au contenu de ce Past In Different Ways. Si vous n’êtes pas anglophones, le titre pourtant explicite ne vous dira rien, alors sachez que M.KISKE a décidé de revisiter son passé à la sauce acoustico-classique.
Alors on retrouve bien entendu des titres perso, mais aussi pas mal de titres de son ancien et fameux groupe, dont « You Always Walk Alone », « We Got The Right », « Kids Of The Century » ou encore « When The Sinner ». Si l’on admet comme postulat définitif que ces chansons n’étaient pas des chef-d’œuvres à la base, le lifting subi ne change pas vraiment la donne. Mélodies pauvrettes, paroles lénifiantes, j’en passe et des meilleures. L’aspect bucolique de la chose ne les rend pas plus digestes, même pas plus pénibles, on reste dans le bas de gamme. De plus, la patine pompeuse des arrangements ajoute une emphase relativement déplacée qui rend le tout aussi léger qu’une troisième choucroute après le plat de côtes.
Et lorsque le zigue se décide à faire plus guilleret, à l’occasion de « Going Home », les sinistres « Heavy Metal Hamsters » ou « Windmill » reviennent en mémoire et prouvent que l’humour allemand, aussi drôle puisse t’il être parfois, sait aussi se faire triste à mourir.
Alors sauvons pour l’honneur « In The Night » et son teint Folk de bon aloi, et surtout « A Little Time », qui même jouée par un hydrocéphale neurasthénique sous calmants ne saurait être massacrée.
Quand à la queue du mickey, elle est tirée à l’occasion de « When The Sinner », dont le refrain Benny Hillesque n’attend plus que les pouet-pouet de tonton Maurice pour atteindre les cimes de la pantalonnade échevelée.
Alors, prenons ça pour une parodie si vous le voulez bien. Mais même les farces de fin de banquet se terminent un jour, et il faudra bien alors tirer un bilan.
Putain, qu’est ce que WEIKATH et HANSEN doivent se marrer…
PS : Michael avant que j’oublie, y’a Stephan EICHER qui voudrait que tu lui rende « Different Ways » il en a besoin pour un album de B-sides…
