CORNERSTONE (uk-dk) - Two Tales Of One Tomorrow (2007)

Après une overdose sévère de Néo-machin, de Classico-truc ou de Méga brutal-chose, rien ne vaut un bon cd de Hard-rock traditionnel pour se remettre en forme. Ca tombe bien, c’est ce que propose CORNERSTONE, avec son dernier album, Two Tales Of One Tomorrow. Encore une fois, rien de bien révolutionnaire, juste du travail bien fait. Les compositions, bien que parfois légèrement similaires, sont fraîches, non dénuées d’influences, mais fameuses.
On trouve un peu de tout chez CORNERSTONE, l’épicerie classique, mais bien rangée. Le son est rond, brillant, mais pas tape-à-l’œil, pas de stuc à foison pour éblouir faussement l’acheteur, mais un joli diamant modeste pour faire plaisir à madame. Les musiciens sont plus que solides, les ambiances léchées, le chanteur à du coffre, dans un registre très Ian Gillan, les rythmes sont variés.
Non, j’ai beau réfléchir, je ne trouve rien de négatif à dire sur ce cd, donc je ne vais pas me forcer ! Ca commence sur les chapeaux de roues avec « Misery », et on se replonge 30 ans en arrière dans le trop fameux Burn de DEEP PURPLE, intro traces de gomme sur le bitume, voix puissante et riff démoniaque. Le genre de titre qui fleure bon le feeling et qui donne envie d’aller plus loin. Sans vouloir trop détailler la structure de cet album, j’insiste sur l’importance de morceaux comme « One Man’s Hell », qui aurait sa place sur un des meilleurs albums de WHITESNAKE, « Mother Of Mercy », au climat très sudiste, « Starlight And Mystery », mélange très digeste des meilleures heures de STRATOVARIUS et Yngwie Malmsteen, ou encore « We Are The Dead », et son atmosphère plombée au riff lourd et pesant.
Somme toute, voilà un Cd qui fait agréablement passer le temps, ce qui de nos jours (ou plutôt des miens !) est un argument assez convaincant. A l’image de cette chronique d’ailleurs. Simple, sans coup fourré, direct. Merci messieurs !
