Et encore un groupe qui se reforme, mais là il s’agit de TERRORIZER qui propose un nouvel album plus de 17 ans après le mythique et unique album du groupe, World Downfall. Il faut savoir que TERRORIZER faisait partie de la vague des précurseurs d’un mouvement appelé le Grindcore au même titre que des groupes comme NAPALM DEATH et surtout CARCASS. Le line-up de l’époque (en 1987) était assez phénoménal : Oscar GARCIA (NAUSEA), David VINCENT et Pete SANDOVAL (MORBID ANGEL) et Jess PINTADO (R.I.P) (NAPALM DEATH).
S’agissant déjà d’un projet à l’époque, on peut se demander quelles sont les raisons de sa reformation aujourd’hui ? D’autant plus que sont exit David VINCENT et Oscar GARCIA du projet. Deux nouveaux sont présents : Tony NORMAN (aussi MORBID ANGEL) à la basse et Anthony REZHAWK (RESISTANT CULTURE) au chant.
Pourquoi avoir voulu réveiller les vieux démons alors que l’album World Downfall a atteint le statut d’album culte ? Car aux premières écoutes de Darker Days Ahead le nouvel opus, on est forcement déçu. Les rythmes sont assez lents pour du Grindcore, la production aux DOW Studios laisse vraiment à désirer et est complètement aléatoire.
Les morceaux sont fades, sales avec des moments directement piochés dans du Thrash Old School. Pourtant l’album démarre de façon convaincante (si l’on exclut l’intro totalement inutile) par le titre « Darker Days Ahead » et ce n’est pas des morceaux comme « Doomed Forever » et « Crematorium » un peu plus inspirés que les autres qui vont sauver l’album de sa monotonie. Comment des titres comme « Legacy Of Brutality » digne d’un groupe de punk juvénile peut-il être sur tel album ? Globalement les morceaux sont assez faibles, la puissance n’est pas là (mais est-ce seulement dû à la production et au mixage ???). On a entre les mains un skeud de DEATH moyen. L’impression de déjà entendu est trop présente. Le chanteur braille de façon trop approximative, la haine dégagée est pathétique, l’énergie aux oubliettes. Il faut également dire que la reprise « Dead Shall Rise » est malgré un mixage déplorable, une bonne surprise.
TERRORIZER n’est malheureusement plus ce qu’il était autrefois et ce Darker Days Ahead est sorti 15 ans trop tard, et même s’il était sorti durant cette période, il serait sûrement passé inaperçu ! Le mythe est cassé.
