Et voici encore pour notre plus grand plaisir un énième groupe de Metalcore de la mort! Originaires de Orange County, Californie, ce groupe existant depuis 1999 apparaît comme un multi récidiviste puisque The Truth fait suite au premier opus Portrait Of The Goddess passé inaperçu et à leur meilleur album à ce jour This Is Love, This Is Murderous datant de 2003. Avec Rob Caggiano (ANTHRAX, CRADLE OF FILTH, etc…) derrière les manettes, on pouvait se dire que l'on allait avoir un contenu couillu et puissant !
Et bien non, ce ne sera pas pour cette fois-ci car c'est un chaos et un bordel monstre ! Seul Rob Caggiano a réussi à s'en tirer (c'était facile en même temps !) et à proposer comme à l'accoutumée une production propre et efficace ! Evidemment que c'est puissant, ça martèle, les guitares sont grasses, le sextet Californien joue de manière brutale et parfois vite !
Alors que les nappes de synthés pompeuses sont présentes, heureusement que le producteur est là pour tirer le meilleur des musiciens. C'est déjà çà. Le problème que l'on rencontre avec ce genre de groupes branchés à l'eye-liner évident et aux ongles noirs, c'est qu'ils ne paraissent pas savoir dans quelle direction musicale se diriger, d'où un cocktail indigeste de Thrash, de Metalcore, de Black Metal et d'atmosphères gothiques avec une petite touche de Glam ! On y rajoute quelques refrains à l'eau de roses appuyés par un chant clair bien pâlot et obtient le dernier album en date de BLEEDING THROUGH, un étron hors catégorie ! Vouloir se diversifier, c'est une chose, faire un album de Metal sans queue ni tête qui ne ressemble à rien, c'en est une autre !
Quand on constate que musicalement ce groupe se compare aux mélodies désespérés des cultes JOY DIVISION ou à la fureur Hardcore de groupes comme CRO-MAGS, on se dit qu'il y a encore beaucoup de mauvaises herbes dans l'industrie du Metal en général ! Pas que l'on en soit pas conscient, au contraire, mais à ce point prendre les auditeurs pour des imbéciles, car disons-le, à qui se destine cet album si ce n‘est à nous, pauvres cobayes que nous sommes ! Je serais curieux de connaître le nombre d'opus vendus…à une bande de gamins pré pubères en mal de conquêtes amoureuses.
On atteint des sommets dans la guimauve et la mièvrerie avec des titres comme Dearly Demented qui a carrément tout faux avec ce refrain pitoyable sorti tout droit d'un bouquin d'Alexandre Jardin (l'horreur, j'en frémis encore en y repensant !), ou bien à cette ballade sirupeuse qu'est Line In The Sand, un romantisme à deux balles où ils ont sûrement voulus voler la vedette à notre star franco-belge, le bellâtre Frédéric François !
De plus, le problème avec ce genre de groupes (leur guitariste Brian Leppke prétend avec un brin d'arrogance que cet album ne sonne comme rien d'actuel, une œuvre originale en tous points), c'est qu'ils pensent avoir tout vu, tout fait et avoir plus d'expériences que des vieux briscards sillonnant la planète depuis trente ans ! Bref on les oubliera aussi vite qu'ils sont apparus et soit dit en passant, ce n'est pas une mauvaise chose ! Bref, de la confiture pour cochon…
