Avec plus de 20 ans au compteur, GWAR propose une fois de plus de la musique totalement délirante et cette fois ci sous forme d’un Live ! Quand on connaît leur manque de compétence technique, on peut s’interroger sur l’utilité de cette galette… et surprise l’écoute de ce disque peut faire taire quelques rumeurs sur la capacité de ces musiciens.
Tout d’abord le groupe apporte du Fun dans le monde du Metal, car le GWAR n’a pas peur du ridicule. Leur sens de l'humour toujours décalé est bel et bien présent et on se demande comment chaque musicien supporte son costume de héros de bande dessinée de comic-horreur ! Regardez absolument le clip mis en bonus vidéo !
Coté musique, comme d'habitude, la basse est enterrée, sous-mixée, mais cela n'a jamais une raison d'écouter GWAR. Les guitaristes assurent une belle performance, le chanteur semble plus motivé que jamais et arrive à faire sonner des morceaux comme « Horror Of Yig » et « Immortal Corruptor » meilleurs que les versions studio ! Quelques morceaux peuvent faire sourire comme « Reaganator », mais il y a quelques bons riffs à trouver. Justement sur ce Live From Mt Fuji on trouve les « meilleurs » titres du groupe, c’est une sorte de Best Of Live ! Rien que pour les morceaux « Bring BackThe Bomb » et « Krosstika » qui prennent toute leur ampleur en live, cet album mérite une attention particulière. Les morceaux proposés sont variés, à la fois Speed, Heavy et même Thrash parfois.
Cependant parler de Best Of est utopique, car cette bande de joyeux troubadours possède un catalogue de titres dont les paroles sont soit hilarantes, soit de mauvais goût. Les rythmes et les structures des morceaux sont simplistes et de médiocre qualité technique. Mais en Live, GWAR propose un show, au sens noble du terme et se donne à fond. L’énergie dégagée donne envie d’aller voir le groupe en concert et on risque d’en sortir étonné et peut-être même impressionné. C’est une véritable recommandation pour tous ceux ouvert d’esprit. En ce qui concerne cette galette, on y trouve de bons passages à coté de très mauvais…
