KULT OV AZAZEL (usa) - The World, The Flesh & The Devil (2005)

Fort de deux premiers albums qui avaient relativement bien marchés et séduits les hordes de fans Black métalleux, c’est avec The World, The Flesh & The Devil que KULT OV AZAZEL devrait asseoir son nom comme un des valeureux représentant Outre Atlantique de Black Metal blasphématoire. Le quartet ne faisant pas dans la demi-mesure, on peut considérer que l’opus se divise en deux parties :
Les quatre premiers morceaux délivrent ainsi un Black Metal hargneux mais teintés de mélodies avec des riffs intéressants. On peut notamment citer « As Temples Burn » ou bien « Compelled To Die » qui allient ainsi puissance de feu à des mélodies savamment trouvées.
Les cinq titres suivants sont quant à eux axés sur une idée très claire : pas de quartier ! Take no prisoners.
“The Glorification Of Evil”, “Blood, Death & Damnation” sonnent de façon bien plus crus. Les rythmiques et les beats y sont plus sauvages ne laissant aucune ou peu de place à la recherche de mélodie.
La seconde parties est bien plus éprouvante, les morceaux s’enchaînant sans répit pour nos humbles tympans. Mais les morceaux sont tout de même entraînants, si bien que l’on écoute l’album avec plaisir.
La remarquable production fait le reste et contribue à appuyer le message empli de misanthropie de KULT OV AZAZEL, même si on peut dire que la batterie est légèrement mixée un ton en dessous.
La front cover est quant à elle supra laide, mais le contenu est toujours aussi irréligieux et impie au possible ! Les Américains, bien qu’issu d’une nation connue pour ne pas être la plus perceptive à l’univers Black Metal, démontrent qu’ils peuvent aussi bien faire si ce n‘est mieux que leurs homologues européens.
Un album plus que convaincant qui saura largement trouver sa place parmi les nombreux aficionados de ce style !
