Cela fait un bail que la scène Black Metal nationale n’a rien à envier à ses homologues norvégiens en matière de qualité et de production de True et de Pagan Black Metal. La scène Black Metal Française se porte plutôt bien et ce n’est pas EVOHE qui nous fera dire le contraire.
Le quatuor gaulois n’en est pourtant pas à son premier méfait puisque le groupe, né de la rencontre de trois membres de CAPHARNAUM est déjà l’auteur d’une démo parue en 2001Non Serviam.
Il faudra attendre la rentrée 2005 pour pouvoir jeter une oreille attentive à leur première production Tellus Mater, un premier opus où l’on sent tout d’abord un réel sens de la mélodie qui se retranscrit au travers de leurs titres, agrémentés comme il se doit par des riffs froids et des ambiances glaciales ! Les différentes lignes vocales assénées par Abssyd, Dalgrin et Furthass apportent une couleur non négligeable aux morceaux, d’autant plus que le chant est vraiment puissant et audible, ce qui n’est pas une mince affaire lorsqu’on parle de Black Metal. L’album profite en plus de la collaboration d’une figure reconnue des groupes de Black, Ludovic Fournier, responsable de la production de l’opus et de groupes tels que NEHEMAH, BLODSRIT ou HIMINBJORG entre autres.
Ce premier opus constitue donc un album cohérent composé de morceaux hargneux, à l’image de « Frozen Fate » et son ambiance à la DARKTHRONE avec ses riffs à la limite du Punk, ou encore « Terin’na » un morceau de Black Metal parfait ! Et que dire du titre « Tellus Mater », le bijou de l’opus ! Il en ressort un grand savoir faire qui démontre une grande maturité pour un première mouture.
C’est en écoutant des albums comme celui d’EVOHE que l’on se rend compte que la scène Black hexagonale est bien vivante, riche de qualité et de créativité ! Un véritable coup de maître.
On peut être fiers du Black Metal Français !
