Le changement n'est pas toujours synonyme de bénéfice, surtout pour le cas que nous avons sous les oreilles. THE CRIMSON ARMADA s'est formé en 2007 et a sorti son premier album, Guardian en 2009, qui les annonçait comme la fine fleur du Deathcore chrétien. Deux années s'écoulent, le succès des Ricains est au rendez-vous et un nouvel album voit le jour. En 2012, THE CRIMSON ARMADA n'est plus. Pour ma part, j'avoue avoir grandement apprécié leur premier jet, et après cet évènement, j’étais certain de ne trouver en Conviction qu'un énième produit de Metalcore insipide et chiant à mourir. C'est en tout cas ce que laissait présager cette cover, pour le moins froide à mon goût.
Mais de cet album, rien d'autre n'est froid. Là où je m'apprêtais à les choper au virage, THE CRIMSON ARMADA m'a remis à ma place en l'espace d'une piste seulement. Les Ricains ont redoublé d'efforts pour nous proposer un Deathcore des plus bétonnés et d'une puissance dévastatrice. Le vocaliste s'éparpille beaucoup moins que sur Guardian et nous offre une prestation exemplaire, passant de vocaux hurlés à la sauce Hardcore aux screams complètement déments avec un professionnalisme époustouflant. Bien évidemment, on notera la présence de chant clair sur quelques pistes, ce qui ne m'a pas franchement gêné, mais qui risque en revanche d'en rebuter plus d'un. Les instruments quant à eux font également un boulot remarquable et savent à merveille nous faire frôler la syncope sans sortir du seuil de tolérance. Mais que serait un Deathcore aux aspirations religieuses sans quelques parties mélodiques apportant un petit côté tristounet des plus enivrants (le duo "Questionning God" suivi de l'interlude "Relief" est tout simplement sublime). Mais lorsque l'on croit que tout est fini, c'est "Call To Arms" qui vient à la charge avec son breakdown planant et ses chœurs spectraux de toute beauté. Et du grand final, qu'en est-il ? Ne vous inquiétez pas, il est bel et bien présent. Il dure cinq minutes et se nomme "Worthy". Ce morceau se présente tel un salut que l'on ferait avant ses adieux. C'est en tout cas mon ressenti. Et comme c'est ici le dernier album des Américains, on peut effectivement considérer que cette piste est comme leur chant du cygne, qui s'éteint petit à petit, jusqu'à redevenir silence.
Soit. C'est donc un passage éclair qu'on fait ces garçons sur la scène Deathcore / Metalcore. Avec un EP et deux albums, THE CRIMSON ARMADA s'était pourtant assuré une bonne carrière. Et me voilà en train de me lamenter de leur séparation. Je devrais plutôt me réjouir d'avoir au moins pu goûter à ce délice qu'est Conviction. Nos petits gars s'en sont pris plein la tronche avec cet album, et ça, ils ne le méritaient pas. Pour cette foi inébranlable, pour avoir accompli cette œuvre dans sa globalité et surtout, pour ne pas être tombé dans les clichés foireux du Metalcore bodybuildé, ne vous attendez en aucun cas à ce que je les sanctionne. Le Tout-Puissant a jadis guidé leur musique, c'est maintenant de leurs pas dont il est question. Merci pour tout les gars.
