J’avoue, au risque de mettre à mal une réputation de Doomeuse ou Black Métalleuse, que j’affectionne certaines ondes beaucoup plus soft juste parce qu’elles ont bercé ma tendre enfance et qu’à l’amorce d’un A Bit Of Devil je fonds littéralement. Quand en plus j’apprends que le projet (ZODIAC) est né de l’initiative du batteur de LONG DISTANCE CALLING (autre combo que j’admire), Mr Janosch Rathmer je m’auto-persuade d’une indéniable qualité.
Oh quelles sont jolies ces premières notes, elles emballent un chant qui rappelle à mon bon souvenir les vocalises d’un Mustaine m’enrôlant dans un Youthanasia en repeat dans mon poste. Passant outre le fait d’un rock’n’roll old school on va pouvoir apprécier une certaine expérience des musiciens. C’est que les gus en question ont roulé leur bosse il semblerait et vont unir leur effort pour ZODIAC et y faire fleurir des influences comme LED ZEP… ou THIN LIZZY.
Le Heavy est à l’honneur mettant l’accent quand même sur un rock tantôt progressif tantôt psychédélique, un beau rappel à une certaine époque, non révolue ça paraît évident. Je tiens d’ailleurs dors et déjà à saluer la prouesse « Coming Home » qui même si elle ne révolutionne absolument pas le style est tout de même à couper le souffle, moi je l’ai retenu mon souffle tant l’intensité est montée crescendo pour exploser sur un solo bluffant d’une technique imparable. Je ne bouderais évidemment pas mon plaisir moi qui est poussé entre autres sous de tels ascendants, de pouvoir encore une fois jouir d’un rock simple, bluesy que ce soit dans les cordes vocales ou électriques. Dans un même album on traverse des séquences rythmées « A Bit Of Devil » qui tiennent en haleine et attisent la curiosité puis des parties Blues « Blue Jean Blues » d’une lenteur cuisante tel un afro chantant sa peine en gospel.
Pour un regain de jeunesse « Horrorvision » va se la jouer à la DANKO JONES avec une pêche répétitive sans réelle recette, mais à l’efficacité prouvée. L’acoustique atteint une certaine perfection sur des étapes telles que « Thunder » où j’imaginais sans mal un Bertrand Cantat en visite officiel aux Etats-Unis reprenant un chant officiel accompagné de nos Allemands.
Bref qu’on ne me dise pas que ça ne casse pas quatre pattes à un canard car à ça je répondrais : certes mais là le canard il est laqué et divin. Je me suis régalée.
