ARCHGOAT s’est formé en 1989 au fin fond du Sud-Ouest de la Finlande (pour être précis). Après bien des changements de line-up, le groupe se stabilise en 2006 avec l’album Whore Of Vethlehem sorti sur Hammer Of Hate Records suivi de The Light Devouring The Darkness via Blasphemous Underground Productions en 2009.
S’auto-qualifiant de groupe de « Finnish Black Metal », le trio reste fidèle à lui-même avec ce mini-cd issu tout droit des entrailles de l'enfer, comme le montrent les titres des chansons et la pochette avec le raffinement qu'on leur connaît. Comme a l'accoutumée chez les finlandais, le son de guitare est gras, à la limite du crade. Petit changement méritant d'être souligné : le son de batterie est vraiment meilleur et mis en avant par des blasts ravageurs. La technique n'est pas le point recherché par les musiciens mais plutôt l'ultra-brutalité malsaine et blasphématoire, entrecoupée à l'occasion de quelque passages mid-tempo qui font du bien et qui sont tout aussi réussis. Ce mini-cd reste du Raw Black primitif que les amateurs de groupes tels BLACK WITCHERY ou encore NOCTURNAL BLOOD sauront apprécier à sa juste valeur. Pour les néophytes du genre, cela peut sembler brouillon voir bordélique mais c'est exactement l'idée voulue et obtenue dans le cas présent. La production reste très audible et presque propre comparée à plusieurs groupes de Raw Black que j'ai eu l'occasion d'écouter. Petit bémol avant de finir, la voix est semble un peu trafiquée, modifiée, peut-être à l’aide d’un vocodeur qui enlève un peu de naturel au chant et donne des fois l’impression que c’est Dark Vador aux vocaux. Mais rien d’horripilant, je vous rassure.
Au final, un disque à conseiller en priorité aux connaisseurs mais pour ceux qui veulent une bonne dose de brutalité, c'est parfait : cet EP très appréciable donnera surement envie de se pencher sur les précédentes créations de ce groupe et intriguera surement, peut-être au point d’aller voir le groupe en live, comme par exemple au Party San Fest (Allemagne) en aout 2012.
