Formé en 2000 en Champagne sous le nom de DESTROY MONASTERY, le groupe opte rapidement pour un changement de nom et renait sous le patronyme de CHRISTICIDE, blaze qui leur va à ravir quand on se penche sur leurs textes, leur aversion pour le christianisme ou leur adoration du Malin. Après 3 années d’attente, les 4 Français sortent enfin leur premier album après deux démos (Destroyed Monastery et Apex Of Negativity) suivies d’un split-cd avec CANCTUS BESTIAE.
Le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que dés le début de l'album, l'intro passée, on est tout de suite dans le bain avec "Where All Begin" qui annonce la couleur. Les 4 musiciens ne sont pas là pour faire de la figuration, loin de là. Avec des titres comme "The Sun Of The Accuser" et "Malum Qui Nescit Occasum", CHRISTICIDE impose son Black, froid, brutal et terriblement efficace. Le batteur assène un blast-beat violent et atmosphérique sur des riffs assez techniques et plus que tranchants qui font vraiment voyager. Ils sont aidés en cela par les vocaux du chanteur/guitariste Scars qui amplifient cette brutalité grâce à cette voix hors du commun. L'album comporte aussi des passages plus lents, chargés d'ambiances très réussies ou le chant se fait plus discret, ce qui ralentit quelque peu les morceaux mais c’est toujours pour repartir de plus belle avec ces blasts rapides. Cet album est très certainement un des meilleurs en terme de Black Metal français. Le groupe a d’ailleurs été vite reconnu en tant que tel car ils enchainent les dates en France avec des groupes reconnus dans la scène underground tels que les Belges d’ ENTHRONED ou les Français de TEMPLE OF BAAL. On pourrait croire que la production est un peu faiblarde, surtout au niveau du son de batterie mais au contraire, elle correspond à la musique de CHRISTICIDE et à l’aura qui l’accompagne.
Pour conclure, je dirais que les 9 titres de ce disque raviront les adeptes de Black Metal qui voudront découvrir un groupe excellent dans leur style et qui, je n'en démords pas, nous sert ici un album complet et tout à fait conforme à ce que l'on pouvait attendre après leur très bonne deuxième démo, Apex Of Negativity sortie en 2004. Je finirais en disant « vivement le prochain album » qui s'intitulera Upheaval Of The Soul et qui devrait sortir courant février 2012.
