SIXX:A.M. projet solo de Nikki Sixx, bassiste des MÖTLEY CRÜE est né de son inspiration en 2007 et grand bien lui a pris d’ailleurs puisqu’il nous offre là une belle première galette qui endosse la casquette d’un bon Hard Rock modernisé.
Loin des « Saints Of Los Angeles » ou autres « Dr. Fellgood » qui franchement, à part nous rappeler de bons souvenirs, nous filent un sacré coup de vieux, ce premier opus se veut plus frais, plus dans l’air du temps. A l’heure où certains de ses ex-compères (victimes de la bouteille entre autre) se lancent à peine perdue dans des carrières solos, ou dans un registre plus Street Rap / Metal, Nikki se met à la page New Hard en nous offrant cet album basé sur son autobiographie du même nom, The Heroin Diaries. Sorti indemne ou non de ses vices, en tout cas ils l’auront inspiré.
Bon attention, je ne crie pas au miracle non plus, travaillant dans le milieu je suis assez bien placée pour constater que même après quelques accidents cérébraux, on peut s’en sortir et parfaitement bien. Alors oui, il fait partie de ces gens qui s’octroient une seconde vie peut-être.
Il nous délivre dès la première piste « X-Mass In Hell » une musicalité frisant le gothic sur fond de discours lâché les dents serrées. Puis la symphonie s’y mêlant sur « Van Nyus », l’originalité va apparaître telle une évidence. Du Hard ??? Je ne sais pas, mais en tous cas ça génère quelques troubles à l’étiquette qui lui avait été collée jusqu’ici : bassiste d’un grand groupe (enfin grand………).
Bon il n’est pas tout seul le bougre non plus, il a su s’entourer de quelques acolytes : DJ Ashba (guitare), James Michael (chant) et de Joshua Stevens (batterie).
On aura droit évidemment à des épreuves sans surprise « Pray For Me », « Tomorrow » ou encore « Heart Failure » mais non sans punch. De belles ballades viendront ponctuer l’ensemble.
« Accident Can Happen » par exemple usera d’une douceur subtilement sensuelle contenant le chant de James Michael. Et puis il y aura « Girl With Golden Eyes » qui a ce pouvoir de bercer même un grand gaillard de plus de quarante ans allant jusqu’à l’endormir sur son rocking-chair… si si, croyez moi c’est du vécu !
Comme elle fut d’usage à narrer sa vie, cette bande originale de livre nous déverse un flot de sentiments plus ou moins tourmentés mais fortement habités et c’est dire si cela en devient parfois poignant. L’application mise au service de chaque accord ici et là verront naître de bons solos et de vibrants refrains qui résonneront un moment dans nos têtes.
Ne crions pas au succès accompli trop vite, voyons voir ce que le prochain opus va nous dévoiler de nos californiens, mais si celui-ci devait être le seul et l’unique alors il se suffirait à lui-même.
