Sorti en 2003, ce Testamentum (In Hora Mortis Nostre) est le premier opus de la formation polonaise VIA MISTICA. Un album de Doom Goth Metal qui ravira principalement les fans de DRACONIAN ou THEATRE OF TRAGEDY puisqu’on a à faire face ici, à une chanteuse, Kaska. Ce groupe encore peu fameux dans nos contrées, a connu bon nombre de difficultés avant de pouvoir accoucher de cet album. Formé en 1998, ils ont attendu 5 ans avant de sortir celui-ci. Sans doute est-ce du aux changements intempestifs de line-up…
Qu’importe, me voila donc en face de l’opus et prêt à l’écouter. De prime abord, c’est un album de Doom assez commun, rien de bien exceptionnel. Dans la biographie jointe au disque, on me dit que leur son est reconnaissable grâce à l’ajout de violons, chose cependant très commune de nos jours. Mis à part ça, le son est pas mal, plutôt bien balance. La voix est plutôt bonne, avec ce qu’il faut de chœurs, Plusieurs parties de doubles pédales ramènent un peu de pêche à l’ensemble et quelques bons solos de guitare ça et là viennent flatter nos tympans si fragiles. A m’entendre, cela pourrait paraitre super, mais ce n’est pas le cas. Je ne dis pas que c’est mauvais, bien au contraire, mais le problème est que le tout est très redondant et apporte une franche sensation de déjà vu. Certaines parties instrumentales comme sur « Valley Of Fear » ou « Blaze » viennent légèrement rehausser le tout, mais à la longue, la voix féminine devient fatigante. Heureusement que sur certaines tracks telles que « Lost Desires » ou « Eternal » , on a le droit à un bon chant bien hurlé de la part de Hal, le bassiste. Mais cela ne suffit pas, c’est mal réparti et ça devient vite trop ennuyeux.
Bon, j’avoue que mis à part DRACONIAN, je ne suis pas ce qu’on pourrait appeler un fan de Metal avec voix féminines. Mais tout en restant objectif, musicalement parlant, ce Testamentum n’est pas trop mauvais bien que plus de voix hargneuses et un peu moins de chants lyriques auraient pu arranger l’ensemble. Reste à voir ce que pourra nous offrir ce VIA MISTICA par la suite.
