Une pochette intrigante. Un groupe qui m’est complètement inconnu. Aucune idée de ce vers quoi je m’embarque, mais aucune attente non plus. Une boucle Electro qui commence. De l’Indus ? J’attends donc les guitares… mais mon second prénom est Sœur Anne. Et je ne vois rien venir. Du moins, pas dans « Les Malheurs ». Et pourtant, pas de réelle déception. Parce que même si on entre dans un univers résolument Pop, il faut admettre qu’il y a un réel travail de recherche et de variations autour de la musique ainsi que des mélodies de chant bien trouvée où la voix masculine, prédominante, et celle féminine se marient à la perfection. « Victorious Cupid » apporte sa première dose de guitare saturée. Mais rien de bien violent. Juste un atout pour la musique, pas une réelle volonté de faire mal. Mais cela marche encore une fois. PURE REASON REVOLUTION explore, innove, invente. Le groupe anglais ne semble pas chercher à viser une population en particulier mais plutôt de visiter des facettes de leur Pop électronique. Si cela doit être plus puissant, comme dans l’excellent « Deus Ex Machina », cela le sera. Si cela doit être plus lancinant, comme dans le triptyque « Keep Me Insane / Insane / Apogee / Requiem For The Lovers », eh bien cela le sera aussi. Le travail sur les voix prend tout son sens dans « Amor Vincit Omnia » (« AVO » pour les intimes) avec ce chœur répétitif mais qui fait tout simplement triper. « Disconnect » fait office d’une sorte de ballade un peu particulière puisqu’on a toujours en fond une voix robotisée qui se permet même de faire « la la la ». Une nouvelle preuve de l’expérimentation et peut-être aussi de l’humour du groupe.
Après une ou deux minutes d’écoute, je me demandais vraiment dans quoi je m’étais embarqué. Et puis, le travail efficace de PURE REASON REVOLUTION a fait son effet. On ne peut que poursuivre dans cette écoute qui est tout sauf répétitive. Par contre, ce disque est à réserver aux adeptes d’une Pop non-conforme ou à des métalleux à l’esprit ouvert.
