Le fait que les albums tributes aient pour principale fonction de remplir les caisses des maisons de disques n’est plus un secret, mais là Mascot Records pousse le bouchon un peu loin...
Un rapide coup d’œil sur le tracklist me fait froncer les sourcils : Eh oui, plusieurs titres nous ont déjà été servis, notamment sur le tribute à Van Halen (chroniqué ici). C’est le cas de “Panama” de la paire Jimmy Crespo/Richard Kendrick, de l’excellent “Shy Boy” avec George Lynch et Tony Harnell, ainsi que de “Yankee Rose” repris de façon lamentable par ENUFF ZNUFF. Et voilà, ce sont les seules stars à officier dans ce tribute famélique !
Pour le reste, on a droit à des copier/coller de “Just Like Paradise” et “Tobacco Road”, imitations réussies mais inutiles, tout comme “Hot For Teacher” par le groupe de reprises HOT FOR TEACHER (quelle imagination !) dont le chanteur - gros et moche mais affublé des mêmes accoutrement que Diamond Dave - fait penser à ces pathétiques clones d’Elvis qui pullulent à Las Vegas. “And The Cradle Will Rock” bénéficie d’une mise en forme plutôt réussie et assez dans l’esprit de ce que ce morceau serait probablement devenu en évoluant avec le temps. Le tout se termine avec un “Dance The Night Away” dont la prod’ est proche de celle d’une démo.
Bref, pas de quoi, se précipiter sur cette galette fadasse qui vous volera votre argent plus sûrement qu’un pickpocket Roumain.
Un des titres est mal orthographié et la tracklist ne correspond pas à ce qui est indiqué au dos de la pochette. Ce sont des détails, bien sûr, mais ils en disent long sur le sérieux avec lequel ce projet a été conçu.
