PSYTRONIX semble afficher l’ambition de ne pas suivre les schémas habituels et nous livre un album inspiré dans un genre où l’on n’attendait pas vraiment de renouveau. Et pourtant...
On a tous lu des dizaines d’interviews dans lesquelles des groupes affirment qu’ils suivent leur propre chemin et se moquent des styles, n’est-ce pas ? Eh bien, pour PSYTRONIX, on a l’impression que c’est le cas !
Success Of A Renewal ? est d’une incroyable maturité. Se jouant des clichés, le groupe parvient à nous surprendre en créant une ambiance assez particulière. On a parfois l’impression d’écouter un album récent de QUEENSRYCHE. Non pas que les Français copient le groupe de Seattle, mais ils partagent cet attrait pour les mélodies envoûtantes que l’on est sûr de ne jamais avoir entendu auparavant. C’est si rare !
Le chant de Arno Cormann est assez nasillard et traînant, il peut parfois faire penser à Dave Mustaine.
PSYTRONIX pratique donc un Metal assez indéfinissable mais bénéficiant d’une authentique personnalité. Chaque morceau de cet EP jouit de sa propre ambiance et parvient à créer l’émotion avec, notamment, une certaine mélancolie :
“Casino Royale Hotel” est une chanson très mélodique bien qu’ayant une rythmique assez nerveuse. Elle bénéficie d’un refrain particulièrement accrocheur. Elle a le potentiel d’un single.
“Man In The Cauldron” est plus Heavy mais dispose d’arrangements indéfinissables qui apportent une certaine douceur et un côté résolument sombre.
Malgré son intro Blues-Rock, “Three Headed Dog” ne tarde pas à nous plonger, là encore, dans un univers particulier, à la fois capiteux et envoûtant.
Les deux derniers morceaux ont une parenté avec MEGADETH et, cette fois, le chant n’est pas seul en cause. C’est flagrant sur “Weeping Willow” qui aurait peut-être dû être plus courte car le riff a tendance à se répéter. En revanche “That's Wishful Thinking” est une réussite totale ; la chanson bénéficie d’une progression admirable.
La production est très correcte même si elle est largement perfectible puisque l’ensemble sonne trop étouffé. Pourtant, les arrangements sont admirables et la prod’ permet de bien percevoir les nombreuses idées qui ont été apportées ça et là afin d’enrichir des compositions déjà pleines de qualités.
Du beau travail qui mérite incontestablement le détour.
