Avec The Equinox Ov The Gods nous n'avons pas affaire à des débutants car en effet le groupe existe depuis 1990. Il nous livre ici leur 3e opus enregistré pendant le printemps 1999 et qui pour des raisons de changement de label a été réenregistré en 2001 pour finalement atterrir dans les bacs qu'en septembre 2002.
The Equinox Ov The Gods pratique un Dark Metal particulier surtout dans l'intensité du chant masculin, en effet, celui-ci semble complainte emplie de tristesse collant parfaitement à l'esprit se dégageant des textes. De plus, sur certains passages, un chant féminin lyrique (Lena Bengtsson) vient se greffer sur certains refrains donnant une dimension supplémentaire à l'ensemble.
Where Angels Dare Not Tread est musicalement intéressant, puisqu'en effet il regroupe tout un tas d'atmosphères variées et malgré cette diversité, le tout reste très homogène. Outre la voix plaintive, les guitares sont globalement assez lourdes, rapides pour une efficacité sans heurt. C'est donc les claviers qui créent quasiment toutes ces ambiances dépressives et nous plonge dans l'univers très Dark de The Equinox Ov The Gods. Pour mieux décrire ces ambiances, je vous laisse le soin de le faire en allant écouter des extraits sur leur site (en lien ci-dessous) ou tout simplement en vous procurant l'album.
N'étant pas fan de Dark Metal, ces Suédois là ont réussi à me faire redécouvrir ce style avec intérêt.
