Les Portugais de TARANTULA se sont formé en 1981 et ont sorti leur premier album en 1987. Ils livrent ici leur septième production studio. Il n’est donc pas étonnant de constater tout au long de l’album une grande maîtrise et une maturité évidente.
A l’écoute du titre d’entrée, on serait tenté de penser que le groupe va s’orienter vers un style plus Heavy qu’auparavant. Il n’en est rien. Le groupe livre un nouvel opus de Hard Rock daté 90’s. Il ne faut rien voir de péjoratif dans cette attachement au passé, car les Portugais regorgent de qualités et n’ont pas beaucoup de complexes à avoir par rapport aux groupes dont ils se sont inspirés. Car leur sujet est parfaitement maîtrisé, tant sur le plan de l’écriture que de l’interprétation. On pense parfois à LYNCH MOB, notamment à cause du jeu de guitare – remarquable - qui peut s’apparenter à celui de George Lynch.
Il faut noter une grande variété dans les titres, puisque tous les morceaux sont différents les uns des autres. On passe ainsi du Heavy (“Breaking The Barriers Of Time”), au Speed (“Far Away From God”) avec, tout de même, une majorité de titres franchement Hard Rock. On trouve donc ce délicat mélange entre riffs efficaces et mélodies accrocheuses.
Il serait difficile de sortir un titre en particulier, car le groupe ne dispose pas là d’un quelconque hit, cependant l’album s’écoute d’une traite, avec plaisir et sans temps mort.
La production exécutée par Tommy Newton (HELLOWEEN) est magistrale, elle ne se contente pas de donner à cet album un excellent potentiel, elle ajoute de nombreux petits artifices qui donnent de la dimension aux compositions : quelques samples discrets, des effets sur le chant, etc.
