C’est dans un contexte particulier que sort ce live puisque le très controversé Smoke This, le dernier album en date de LYNCH MOB, est sorti 4 ans auparavant et que la grande époque du groupe remonte à plus de 12 ans ! Cette sortie sent donc le coup de fric à plein nez. Pourtant les qualités de leur musique nous obligent à jeter une oreille sur cet enregistrement.
On retrouve ce côté très Rock’n Roll qui convenait vraiment bien à cette formation américaine et qui transpirait sur les albums studio ; cette impression de rouler en Harley avec un pantalon de cow-boy... Autant le dire tout de suite cet album plaira à ceux qui avaient aimé les albums studios de LYNCH MOB car il en a toutes les qualités. On retrouve notamment son leader, George Lynch, en très grande forme, exécutant des solos impressionnants qui nous confirment combien il a l’esprit Rock.
Pourtant cet album n’est pas exempt de critiques. La première vient des qualités approximatives d’enregistrement. Il est évident que le groupe n’a pas bénéficié de moyens considérables tant pour la prise de son que pour la post-production. C’est loin d’être mauvais, mais ce n’est pas nickel non plus, disons que cela a le mérite d’être plus naturel, moins aseptisé. En revanche on devine assez facilement que les chansons n’ont pas été enregistrées dans l’ordre où elles sont présentées, de même il y a eu des coupures franches entre chaque titres. Cela nous conduit tout droit sur le deuxième reproche : à force de couper, il ne reste plus que les chansons car la communication entre le public et le groupe a été effacée. C’est renforcé par le fait que le groupe ne fait que très peu de modifications par rapports aux versions studio. On a donc le sentiment que ce live est assez égoïste. On en tire malgré tout un certain plaisir.
