To Live A Lie Records est un des labels les plus actifs dans le secteur Powerviolence/Crust/Fastcore. La liste des artistes qu'ils ont distribués est longue comme un jour sans pain, mais je peux en citer quelques uns, à la volée, comme CAVE STATE, FISTULA, IMPULSE, SIX BREW BANTHA, TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION ou encore ACxDC.
En gros, si d'aventure vous venait l'envie de dresser un panorama représentatif de cette scène extrême, il vous faudrait impérativement passer par eux.
Et histoire de vous mâcher le travail, ils ont sorti cette année le deuxième volume sampler de leur catalogue, To Live A Lie Vol II.
Dessus ? Dedans ? La crème de la crème. Vingt neuf groupes pour autant de morceaux, et une durée quasi similaire. Vous retrouverez au gré des sillons GROUND FLESH, WEEKEND NACHOS, SUPER MUTANT, BEARTRAP, CHEST PAIN, ABUSE, IMPULSE et encore beaucoup d'autres.
Si le style général reste dans la lignée du Fastcore/Powerviolence le plus torride mais respectueux, quelques exactions sont quand même à noter.
Ainsi, CHEST PAIN comme à son habitude s'amuse beaucoup avec ses stridences déchirant un tempo lourd et presque martial ("Ghola", oppressant), SIDETRACKED fait tout ce qu'il peut pour remporter la palme du combo le plus bruyant et stressant ("Pressured Speech", limite Noise quand même), talonné de près par VILE INTENT qui se tord à tel point qu'il finit par presque faire un grand écart facial Grind ("Total Turing"), FALSE LIGHT gagne haut la main le prix spécial du jury pour la production la plus assourdissante ("Self Damnation" et son break parlé très malsain, sans parler des guitares d'outre tombe), tandis que TERMINAL CRISIS se fend d'un hommage à la tradition joyeuse des années 80, STUPIDS et DRI en tête ("Midlife", sautillant et contagieux), pendant que CONGENITAL DEATH frise l'hystérie pure et simple ("Ground Flesh", gros bordel incontrôlable), et que STREET PIZZA s'affale dans le chaos débile le plus jouissif ("Blah, Blah, Blah (We Get It!!)", ou comment débarquer dans une piaule et tout démonter d'un coup de crosse).
Le reste se fait un malin plaisir de rester dans la norme Fastcore/Powerviolence, au gré de productions parfois à la limite de la démo. Mais après tout, c'est bien ce qui fait le charme de cette musique non ? En écoutant To Live A Lie Vol II, on a vraiment le sentiment de se retrouver dans les 80's, lorsque les scènes Hardcore et Grind commençaient à répandre la bonne parole en Angleterre et aux USA. Après s'être avalé d'un trait ces vingt et quelques minutes de boucan plaisant, on en aurait presque envie de se remettre au tape trading, en achetant une vieille platine cassette pour dupliquer les meilleures démos du moment, et les partager avec des fans. Et c'est aussi pour ça que j'aime écouter ces compiles honnêtes et franches.
Quel bel auto hommage que se rend ce label si actif dans l'underground... En citant ses meilleures sorties du moment, il prouve à quel point la scène core actuelle est bouillonnante, même si la plupart d'entre vous n'y entendront qu'un boucan à peine digne d'amateurs incapables de jouer correctement. Mais il faut savoir rester jeune et plein d'allant... Et même si la plupart de ces combos resteront au stade du DIY, que peu de gens se souviendront de leur nom dans quinze ans, je suis assez heureux d'avoir été là pour les écouter.
N'est ce pas EXODUS qui prônait les joies du Good Friendly Violent Fun?
