Est-ce que le Hard Rock est une affaire de beaux gosses ? Oui.

Est-ce que le Hard Rock c'est escalader l'armature d'une scène ? Pas seulement.
Est-ce que quand Jimmy Page est fan de ta musique, c'est que tu es Hard Rock ? Y'a intérêt !
What's in your head, in your head. Zombie, zombie, zombie.
Du Rock irlandais, ces quelques paroles sont probablement les plus connues. Il faudra désormais faire avec THE ANSWER, quatuor originaire d'Irlande du Nord et promis, à l'époque de la sortie de Rise (2006), a un avenir ensoleillé. Sept ans plus tard, la sortie acclamée de New Horizon prouve que la troupe ne s'est pas cassée la gueule, comme beaucoup le souhaitaient. Car c'est vrai qu'on ne devient pas la coqueluche des magazines Rock ni l'égérie des petites pétasses cocaïnomanes sans se faire détester. THE ANSWER aura vécu avec, sans perdre son sang froid et encore moins son feeling implacable qui fait de ce premier opus un incontournable de ce quarté gagnant.
Paul Mahon, fils de Sean Mahon, lui-même trompettiste de THE FRESHMEN, groupe des années 60-70 ayant ouvert pour les BEACH BOYS, ne s'est pas trompé en recrutant son pote Micky Waters à la basse et James Heatley (qui a fréquenté ASH) à la batterie. L'idée du grand groupe de Rock prend forme, et ce sont les prestations enfiévrées de Cormac Neeson dans le soubassement aménagé d'une pizzeria qui achèveront le trio de l'engager. THE ANSWER est né, avec une idée précise : offrir une dernière injection de bonheur aux vieux de la vieille qui sentent la faucheuse se rapprocher. Combien ont depuis trépassé sans avoir pu écouter Everyday Demons et Revival ? Du LED ZEPPELIN plein la tête, AEROSMITH pour la jeunesse éternelle, THE WHO et son culot, THE ANSWER est un très bel hommage Rock bluesy aux pionniers des seventies, ceux pour qui ce Rock là était a way of life. On ne s'étonnera pas beaucoup aux arrivées conjuguées de l'enflammée "Come Follow Me" ou de la nostalgique "Be What You Want" et ses faux-airs de CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL doublés de l'atmosphère du mythique "Sweet Home Alabama". Par contre, c'est autrement plus surprenant d'avoir entre les mains un vrai bon album de Rock N' Roll à l'ancienne pondu par de petites poules inoffensives, qui se permettent en un claquement de doigts, de faire se rencontrer Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa et feu Alvin Lee. C'est d'ailleurs le principal problème de Rise et il peut se satisfaire de n'en avoir pas de plus contraignant. THE ANSWER est un geyser en permanente éruption qui évoque tant de bons souvenirs qu'on en oublie presque que derrière cet album, il y a un groupe qui n'est pas un tribute-band, qui possède une âme, une personnalité, un potentiel et qui l'exprime pleinement sur un tout premier disque. La performance est éclipsée par la mémoire revigorée, accusant peut-être l'absence du ou des tubes n'ayant pas non plus pris corps sur Everyday Demons. Jusqu'à preuve du contraire, THE ANSWER a déjà écrit de très bons titres comme "Never Too Late" ou "Into The Gutter" mais rien qui ne soit capable de s'inscrire dans la postérité...
Problématique pour un "grand groupe de Rock" qui n'est plus vraiment en devenir. Oui, quelque part, les Irlandais ont concrétisé leur rêve. Devenir un nom, pas une marque de fabrique. C'est peut-être ce qui leur manque pour tutoyer l'excellence. Et quand on sait que les plus grands standards du Rock ont déjà été écrits depuis 40 voire 50 ans, il est forcément ambitieux de prétendre à sa part du gâteau. La plume de THE ANSWER est affûtée, le verbe est efficace mais le contexte n'est pas encore assez atypique pour rédiger ne serait-ce que le début de la légende. Pour le moment, le temps joue encore avec eux, mais qu'il s'égraine vite...
