BONRUD débute sa carrière par un exploit : il entre directement dans le Top 5 des pochettes les plus ridicules. Il faut dire que le choix du « Evil Cacatoès » était une valeur sûre pour atteindre le podium. Pendant deux bonnes heures je reste incrédule, la pochette de l’album entre les mains, les yeux écarquillés et la bouche entrouverte de stupéfaction.
Après avoir repris mes esprits, je jette un coup d’œil sur le dossier de presse et découvre que Paul Bonrud a une tête de poseur de moquette. Et en plus il s’appelle Bonrud ! Putain, il doit vraiment avoir du talent ! Eh ben oui.
Paul Bonrud a roulé sa bosse pendant des années comme musicien de studio, lorsqu’il rencontre le chanteur Dave Hendricks avec lequel il décide de monter un groupe et de partir en studio.
L’écoute de l’album nous fait vite oublier le choix artistique de la pochette, et nous plonge dans un Rock mélodique de bonne facture. Bonrud préfère nous faire voyager dans ses atmosphères musicales plutôt que de nous assener des refrains tapageurs ; et l’on se laisse vite porter par ses compositions. L’ensemble, bien que pas révolutionnaire, est intéressant et supporte bien les écoutes multiples. Je dirais même qu’elles sont profitables à une meilleure appréhension du disque.
Les solos sont très soignés et, de manière générale, le travail instrumental (presque entièrement assuré par Paul Bonrud lui-même) est de qualité.
Ajoutons que l’album a été mixé par Keith Olsen, producteur de WHITESNAKE, OZZY, FOREIGNER, NIGHT RANGER…
Souhaitons donc bonne chance à l’ami Bonrud pour sa carrière naissante, en espérant que les pochettes de ses prochains albums seront aussi tordantes.
