Je regrette d'avoir choisi de chroniquer le nouveau GRIND-O-MATIC. Après l'avoir écouté une fois à l'endroit, une fois à l'envers, je me suis rendu compte que ça n'avait pas de sens et qu'en plus, je ne suis pas assez défoncé pour m'en amuser. Flower Power, c'est un peu le cadeau méga-stylé que tu gagnes en arrivant deuxième à Questions Pour Un Champion. Le Larousse illustré des champignons hallucinogènes. L'Encyclopédie complète des plantes toxiques. Tout un programme qui relègue le trio au rang d'originaux, pour ne pas dire de cocaïnomanes compulsifs. Il se passe un monde de découvertes et d'épanouissement dans leur cervelle, c'est une évidence. Des petits oiseaux gazouillent au rythme de ce Grind marginal qui n'aurait pas pu être plus explicite qu'une partouze entre membres d'IWRESTLEDABEARONCE et de KILL THE CLIENT. Une meuf pour huit mecs, ça prend généralement cher. Et c'est le même tarif pour Flower Power.
Comme je le disais plus haut, cet album (leur deuxième après Welcome To Grind-O-Land en 2009) part donc du principe que chaque compo sera la matérialisation musicale d'une plante toxique, d'où le nom de l'opus. Ainsi, ne vous étonnez pas si ça parle tabac, ricin, marijuana, strychnine ou sureau. "Recueil de diverses aventures où s'exprime la puissance de la nature", Flower Power est à première vue un concentré de Grind déstructuré et hyperactif qui aura le tort d'exister au travers d'un objet complet comprenant pochette, livret, paroles et musique. Je m'explique. L'un ne va pas sans l'autre, tout s'emboîte, tout s'imbrique et si tu veux vraiment comprendre l'idée, un tour sur Bandcamp ne saurait te rassasier. Là où les Parisiens ont été très forts, c'est dans le jusqu'au-boutisme de leur concept. L'ironie est maniée avec dextérité, la maniaquerie des mecs démange comme le poil à gratter. Ce full-lenght est une véritable œuvre au sens visuel et conceptuel du terme, et il convient de s'investir mentalement (et financièrement) pour arriver la décrypter. Après, il y a un constat qui porte également sur la musique, puisque c'est de ça dont on voulait parler à la base. Je vais surement me répéter, mais ce Grind est d'une inaccessibilité totale, barré dans son déroulement par d'innombrables samples, violences rythmiques, saccades et autres forfaits incompréhensibles. Sans le vouloir (quoique ?), GRIND-O-MATIC, malgré la touche clownesque qu'il donne à son Grind, fait un bond dans le passé en pratiquant une musique acerbe et lyophilisée. C'est un peu les racines du Grind qui perforent par dessous un tapis de Twister et dans ce sens, l'authenticité de leur base musicale est un atout de choix. Pour autant, le trip est franchement lourd et pas toujours marrant. A vouloir aller trop loin dans la masturbation Grind-O-technique, le trio a terminé Flower Power à l'urine. Et c'est un peu à l'image de l'auditeur qui prendra son pied dans un premier temps avant de céder d'épuisement devant ces 40 minutes de Grind bruitiste, décomplexé, lancinant et mécanique.
Faut-il avoir goûté aux plaisirs de l'algue toxique, à la douceur de l'aconit, à l'âcre force la marijuana pour apprécier le pouvoir minimaliste et caustique de cet album ? Ou suffit-il de reconnaître que GRIND-O-MATIC est un trio trop marginal pour être crédible ? En tout cas une chose est sûre. Flower Power n'est pas à la portée de tout le monde, et c'est quelque part ce qui le rend vraiment génial. Dans son genre, mais génial quand même.
