Miam-miam. C’est en me léchant les babines que j’amorce ce The Connection attendu de pied ferme par tous les fans de PAPA ROACH. Pour ma part, ils étaient en équilibre sur un câble à haute tension tant j’attends d’eux depuis Time For Annihilation … Rappelez-vous ce pseudo album/compile dont la critique que j’en ai faite m’aura valu des noms d’oiseaux en tous genres. Il en allait de ces « pauvre fille cette chroniqueuse surement une zicos ratée » à « faut pas faire d’article sur un groupe que l’on n’aime pas » et patati et patata. Et bien non loupé, je ne suis ni une zicos ratée (juste une simple soignante passionnée de Metal) et je n’ai pas écrit sur un groupe que je n’aime pas puisque j’en suis fan seulement voilà, je suis restée objective et au vue de tout ce qu’ils avaient fait auparavant … bref je ne vais pas la refaire cette chronique ni la justifier hein, peut-être rajouterais-je un petit quelque chose quand même : je vous em……… stop. Revenons à l’essentiel ici : The Connection.
Voilà tout ce que nous attendions ; cette pêche qui pulvérise tout sur son passage et dont Jacoby et ses compères ont le secret. On retrouve d’entrée de jeu les battements vifs qui portent les hurlements d’un front-man plus en forme que jamais. C’est dire qu’il a bien le droit ce gaillard de gueuler avec frénésie quand on sait qu’il a bien failli ne plus jamais pouvoir le faire suite à une opération. Ce premier titre chatouillera un peu de la Dupstep à croire que c’est à la mode (dixit le fabuleux The Path Of Totality de KORN).
Orienté quelque peu par « Burn » (morceau du précédent album) The Connection s’annonce comme un bien bel ouvrage, à l’image de leurs meilleurs opus. Comme le font les vrais amis en des circonstances bien tristes, soutenir fut apparemment fédérateur ici. En effet, c’est sous l’impulsion de ses musiciens/amis que Jacoby a peut-être définitivement enterré ses vieux démons. Ne dit-on pas que lorsque l’on a touché le fond on ne peut que remonter ? Certes, certains proposeront de creuser, mais qu’à cela ne tienne PAPA ROACH en a décidé autrement et c’est brillamment que la douleur a contribué à l’élaboration de ce que j’appellerais une renaissance.
« Before I Die » prend des couleurs nouvelles en s’essayant à des nappes vaporeuses aux samplers s’accouplant parfaitement au jeu toujours aussi carré. Ce sera également le cas de « Leader Of The Broken Hearts » qui fleure bon la rage de survivre et transmet un bel optimisme sur fond de mélancolie tout de même. C’est d’ailleurs sur des compositions comme celle-ci qu’il est permis de prendre toute l’ampleur du talent de ce combo qui sait aussi bien vous rendre hystérique qu’il sait vous apaiser et vous offrir un aller simple vers une belle romance. Il l’avait déjà prouvé à bien des reprises autrefois et réitère l’expérience.
PAPA ROACH est incontestablement un groupe de scène et de toute évidence The Connection va lui aussi nous faire bouger en live. Sachez que moi en tout cas je ne boude pas mon plaisir de les avoir vus au Hellfest 2009 et de les revoir sur l’édition 2013.
Grandement soulagée de les retrouver enfin, j’avoue sans hésitation que The Connection peut se vanter de rejoindre les albums cultes qui ont fait la renommer de PAPA ROACH.
