L’Ukraine deviendrait-elle le nouveau berceau du Black Metal ? SYMURAN nous venant tout droit de ses contrées s’y efforce en tout cas et ce avec une certaine dose d’impudence. Le duo qui bosse depuis quatre ans déjà sur son projet n’y va pas par quatre chemins et entre dans le vif du sujet cash. C’est aussi poétique qu’une sodomie à sec, ça bourrine sans précaution, c’est tranchant et saignant donc. Un peu comme de l’huile que l’on jette sur le feu, on en met plein la vue, mais attention toutefois à ne pas se brûler.
Pourtant tout ça avait très bien commencé. Sur une rythmique épique « Pessimizm » annonçait un présage aguichant. Le chant guerrier se mariant naturellement à la lourdeur des percussions. Tout montait crescendo et développait un Black épique intéressant certes déjà vu mais habité. Oui mais voilà au-delà des imperfections comme le battement si significatif du genre qui fait ici office d’un quasi hors sujet, il y a ce petit quelque chose qui agace et freine vraiment, le simple fait qu’il soit justement présent en permanence comme une bande-son rembobinée pour chaque compo. Un fond sonore qui n’évolue guère et c’est fort dommage car du boulot, ils en abattent ces deux là.
Preuve en est (accompagnée d’un soupir de soulagement) : « Dead ». Cette fois les messieurs ont pris soin d’instaurer des préliminaires dignes d’une invitation. L’adage « plus c’est long plus c’est bon » ne sera pas de rigueur ici car aussi courte soit-elle, cette introduction elle n’en est pas moins efficace et nous prédispose à une suite bien plus tenace. Cette fois la violence est mise en valeur par des séquences plus classiques.
Lui succèdera alors « The Night Will Fall Down Again » aux accents nettement plus Death et par la même occasion bien plus peaufinés. On appréciera de toute évidence la rythmique soutenue et le climat accentué par la lourdeur de la gratte.
Bon j’avoue que j’ai succombé et admets que je me serais fourvoyé si je n’avais pas été au bout de cet album car je serai passé à côté de ce qui pour moi représente la pépite, le bouquet final de ce Syklus Av Helheim : « Under The Runes Of The Sun ». La double pédale assommante auparavant à retrouver sa juste place et son juste dosage laissant le loisir à tout le reste de prendre possession des lieux. Messieurs Vlad Rommel (chant) et Khort vont nous faire la plus belle démonstration de leur férocité sur ce morceau le plus long de l’opus.
Voilà donc où étaient cachées les belles couleurs de l’artwork, des feux d’artifice de corps malmenés jaillissent alors sous la plus belle des formes, musicale.
