En décembre 2012 sortira le nouvel album des Irlandais de ZOMBIFIED.
Cette annonce me paraissait justifier une chronique de leur album précédent, au titre accrocheur de Backroom Eugenics, paru en septembre de l’année dernière.
Bon, ça se discute bien sur, mais il faut bien meubler un samedi soir pauvre en émotions fortes.
Pour les novices et les pisse-froid, ZOMBIFIED, c’est l’Irlande du gore, la patrie verte et féconde de la putréfaction. C’est un Gore-Grind classique, mené de main de chair par un quintette qui ne s’en laisse pas compter, et qui reprend les choses là ou MORTICIAN, DECAPITATED et autres REGURGITATE, en version allégée toutefois, les avaient laissées.
Car il n’est pas question ici de brouet dans lequel aucun des ingrédients n’est identifiable, mais plutôt d’une dégustation de steak tartare qui dégénère en partouze de médecins déments.
Alors, Backroom Eugenics. Plutôt Mengele ou Lynchburg ? La boucherie ou la stérilisation classique et propre ? Un peu des deux à vrai dire. Car si les Irlandais savent foncer bille en tête, ils ne négligent pas pour autant les passages bien Heavy qui vous écrasent le crâne.
Alors on alterne…
Les cavalcades effrontées, les pilonnages bien dosés, avec en appoint une production irréprochable qui met en valeur l’épaisseur des compositions. Et pour peu que l’on tende une oreille un peu fine, on pourrait même distinguer une basse bien grasse qui cimente la batterie aux guitares assez inventives.
Et c’est donc après une courte intro très bien sentie que les choses sérieuses commencent… Sorte de rapport médical sur fond de tissu sonore orgiaque et développé, elle nous met de suite dans le bain, et incarne à merveille l’annonce très crédible d’une suite relativement assourdissante.
Suite qui ne traîne pas d’ailleurs…
Et « Limb After Limb » de nous proposer, en un peu plus de trois minutes, le menu de la soirée.
Bon, là-dessus, pas de surprise. Ketchup, sauce au sang, et autres joyeusetés gastronomico-sonores explosives.
Ca joue vite, précis, ça ralentit lorsque l’envie s’en fait sentir, mais c’est puissant, et ça donne furieusement envie de tout décalquer sur son passage.
ZOMBIFIED, comme son nom l’indique, n’est pas là pour amuser la galerie, mais plutôt pour la bousiller dans les grandes largeurs.
La tendance à la non empathie continue sur le subtil « The Forgotten Art Of Strangulation » (mais où vont-ils chercher tout ça…), tandis que « Human Cull » pérennise quant à lui l’art subtil et séculaire de la boucherie intégrale telle que le CANNIBAL CORPSE de Chris Barnes a pu l’édifier un jour.
J’aimerais bien vous dire que « The Insidious Tragedy » calme un peu les ardeurs de nos Leatherface en puissance, mais il n’en est rien.
Il reprend les choses là ou « Limb After Limb » les a commencées, tout en y ajoutant bon nombre de passages très catchy qui accrochent l’oreille (qui pend).
Pour le coup, tout le « talent » de ZOMBIFIED y passe, et n’y voyez là aucune malice. Overdose de changements de tempi, solo plus vrai que nature, break rouleau compresseur addictif, avant d’aller se finir sur la table à découper avec un hachoir rouillé.
Et puis, tout à coup, une jolie intro, presque larmoyante… Putain, les mecs, vous assurez… J’aime votre humour, parce que balancer juste après le tabasco en pleine gueule, c’est vraiment drôle.
Mais la mélodie est là, et bien là… Et c’est ça que j’aime chez vous.
Cette façon de désosser avec une vieille radio derrière, en sifflant, l’air de rien. Du travail de boucher certes, qui éclabousse les murs, mais qui laisse la chambre froide propre. Du grand art. C’est incontestable.
Bon, là je suppose que ma conclusion ne nécessite pas une trentaine de lignes, l’exposé en lui-même étant assez explicite.
Et sans que je comprenne pourquoi, sitôt la dixième écoute achevée, je me suis lancé le « Chaud Cacao » de notre bonne vieille Annie Cordy.
Et puis j’ai mangé un steak à l’oignon.
Il y a des samedi soirs décidemment très bizarres.
