Depuis la nuit des temps l’océan recèle de secrets, de mystères, fondés ou non. IN MOURNING nous compte avec leur troisième opus The Weight Of Oceans, une nouvelle légende. Prenant l’accent bleuté d’une aubade maritime, elle va nous entraîner vers des profondeurs plus mélodiques qu’à l’accoutumée de la part des Suédois.
Introduite lentement sur une base extrêmement instrumentale « Colossus » va déployer ses tentacules pour nous présenter cet hybride naissant d’un croisement entre Cthulhu et un calamar. Autant dire que les réjouissances s’annoncent épiques. Le symbole, que dis-je la pièce maîtresse d’un conte n’est-elle pas le personnage principal qu’il soit monstrueux ou beau petit prince de pacotille ? Quand le cœur se met à parler, les apparences sont transparentes et le ressentit dépasse le regard. Un être dépourvu d’attrait physique de grande envergure peut vous rendre aveugle, mais peut faire vibrer tout votre être. On démarre donc le périple sur une épreuve de gros calibre dont la mélodie, axée essentiellement sur une démonstration instrumentale, va mettre en appétit. Sans s’éloigner totalement de ses travers progressifs IN MOURNING nous offre cette fois-ci une nouvelle facette de sa personnalité et c’est à son âme tourmentée qu’il va nous convier de s’unir. Prise d’assaut par la multitude de bras gesticulant de la bête je me perds dans les méandres d’un « A Vow To Conquer The Ocean » et vais couler sans retenue dans des solos enivrants.
Comme une surprise n’arrive jamais seule (bon ça c’est ce qu’on dit, foutaise … sauf ici) j’ai percé le secret des sirènes. Ce ne sont pas des femmes, et non le mythe de la femelle qui piégeait les marins n’est plus depuis « Celestial Tear ». L’écho sur cette gratte délicate diffuse doucement un chant clair puis des chœurs masculins à l’unisson apprivoisant les téméraires navigateurs que nous sommes et qui veulent s’approcher d’un peu plus près de l’être énigmatique. Finalement piégé sans regret on va le toucher du doigt, de la main et enfin le serrer contre soi après avoir vainement lutté avec lui dans les remouds de son récital.
Chahuté par des compositions Death Prog’ on sera apaisé par leur ascendant Death/Melo appuyant fermement sur des nappes réellement romanesques. S’installant à l’opposé de son prédécesseur, The Weight Of Oceans balaye les doutes quant aux compétences du combo à nous émouvoir une fois encore. Mon calamar géant peut bien à présent s’en aller s’éteindre au fond de l’eau emportant avec lui les rêves avec lesquels il m’a bercé.
